Nov 18, 2002 : Savvis Takes Over IOS Hosting Contracts

📅 November 18, 2002 - Managed IP and managed hosting service provider SAVVIS Communications (SAVVIS.net -> lumen.com) announced on Monday that it has been selected by Intel Online Services to provide a managed hosting service alternative for the closing business unit's customers in the US, UK and Japan.

According to the agreement, SAVVIS will offer managed services to IOS customers from IOS data centers in Santa Clara, CA, Cantilly, VA, London and Tokyo, allowing the customers to keep their existing services in place without having to migrate to another facility.
Intel announced in June of this year that it intended to exit the hosting business by mid-2003.
"Intel Online Services' first priority is taking care of our existing customers,? says IOS president Dialibor Vrsalovic. ?IOS believes that SAVVIS offers a smooth transition alternative for IOS customers, offering service level agreements at the same price and using the same equipment in the same data centers as IOS.?
According to SAVVIS, the agreement is structured so it will enter into leases and assume the management of IOS data centers in London, Tokyo, Santa Clara and Chantilly by May 1, 2003. Starting immediately, IOS customers will have the option of transferring from an IOS contract to a SAVVIS contract, in which case SAVVIS will acquire equipment and software licenses, and assume responsibility for monitoring, management and maintenance of the solution.
