📅 - Canadian managed Web hosting and Internet infrastructure service provider Q9 Networks Inc. (Q9.com -> equinix.com) announced on Wednesday that it has won a comprehensive outsourcing contract from online electricity market exchange the Alberta Watt Exchange (watt-ex.com).
The Alberta Watt Exchange, says Q9, allows participants to buy and sell contracts for forward commitments in the provincial electricity market. Along with trading electrical energy, the exchange trades ancillary services, used by the provincial Transmission Administrator to maintain the stability and integrity of Alberta's electrical system. According to Q9, the Alberta Watt Exchange will use both the company's colocation and managed services, including space in the company's Calgary data center, a Q9express managed server bundle, Internet bandwidth, a Web-based control panel, automated monitoring and round-the-clock support. "Customers with business-critical Web applications are increasingly seeing the value of our multiple connections to the Internet from a performance perspective," says Osama Arafat, CEO, Q9 Networks. "In the event of usage spikes, we've built enough capacity to ensure adequate headroom for the most demanding scenarios, be it online promotions, breaking news or bids on energy contracts."
