Aug 21, 2008 : Q9 to Build $50M Facility in Calgary

q9.com logo📅 - Managed hosting and data center infrastructure provider Q9 Networks (q9.com -> equinix.com) announced on Thursday it will invest up to $50 million to build its third data center in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The company said it has paid $20 million to buy a building and property in the Calgary area to house the center.

Q9 will spend an additional $30 million on technology for the new operation, which is scheduled to open next summer.

With the upcoming data center build, Q9 has already invested about $85 million in the Calgary market, the headquarters of Canada's energy sector.

During the past few years, Calgary has experienced a significant economic boom -- fueled by the thriving oil and gas industry -- to become the fastest growing city in Canada.

In addition to its data centers in Calgary, Q9 operates data centers in Toronto, Brampton, Ontario, backed by an industry leading SLA which guarantees 100 percent network and power availability.

Q9 offers a range of managed services, including bandwidth, dedicated servers, firewalls, load balancing, virtual private networking and back-up/restore.

"Today's announcement represents our commitment to maintaining and growing our leadership position in the Calgary market," says Q9 CEO Osama Arafat. "With this investment, we are demonstrating to our customers that we can grow along with them for the foreseeable future."

In February, Q9 announced it was selected to provide a fully managed hosting solution for Wal-Mart Canada's website.
