May, 2003 : Speedera to Provide Streaming for NHL.com
📅 - Speedera Networks Inc. (speedera.com) announced Thursday that the National Hockey League (nhl.com) has implemented Speedera's SpeedSuite service to provide video streaming for the league's official Web site, NHL.com.
NHL.com offers subscription and pay-per-view content that has turned the Web site into a significant source of revenue. On-demand streaming is now in its third season.
?Speedera's business value extends beyond improving the quality and reliability of our site's content delivery, to being a significant enabler of our successful business model for our online property,? said Peter Del Giacco, group vice president, information technology, National Hockey League. ?By improving the quality of the online experience, fans are more likely to sign up for our subscription services and are more likely to keep coming back. The fact that Speedera cuts our delivery costs at the same time is an added bonus.?
Security was a key selling point. ?Content security was one of our major concerns,? continued Del Giacco. ?Speedera's security features and its flexibility in working with other security vendors? technologies exceeded our expectations.?
Speedera will be delivering content in Windows Media Services 9 Series format on the Windows Server 2003 platform.
?The NHL understands the power that video brings to an exciting and fast-paced sport like hockey, and by using Speedera, NHL.com can immediately bring the action to its fans online,? said Ajit Gupta, president and CEO of Speedera.
Speedera Networks is a provider of content delivery services based in Santa Clara, California.
