Jul, 2003 : Dell Unveils New PowerEdge Server for SMBs
📅 - Dell (dell.com) unveiled today the PowerEdge 400SC (dell.com/poweredge), a new single-processor server for small and medium-sized businesses.
Powered by an Intel Pentium 4 processor at up to 3.2 GHz and up to 4GB of memory, the new server is optimized for the network infrastructure and file or print applications of small and medium-sized businesses.
In addition, the server's pedestal chassis and set-up tools lets small organizations with little or no IT staff replace a desktop-based network with their first server.
Additional specifications include two IDE or SCSI drives, ECC 400MHz DDR memory, integrated Gigabit(a) Ethernet network connection, and Hardware RAID controller options.
According to the company, the new server is the first from a major manufacturer to feature an 800 MHz front side bus.
"Our SMB customers tell us that to be competitive they need the fastest technology at the lowest price," said Neil Hand, director of product marketing in Dell's Product Group. "By delivering industry firsts in performance features, the PowerEdge 400SC provides customers with plenty of computing power so they can stay focused on growing their business."
Pricing for the new server starts at $499.
The PowerEdge 400SC is available immediately with factory installation of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003, or Red Hat Linux.
