😠 The Hostek of years past is not the Hostek of today!
Okay, I don't even know where to start. I have used Hostek for the past 20 years minimum. Everything was great until the last 3 weeks.
First, I know they are migrating to Ohio, but in that process, they broke a contesting site that I have hosted with them for more than 15 years. Basically, when moving the sites to another state, they didn't take into account the SSL certs. needed to be updated.
I have a contesting site in the state of Texas for newspapers and it's always been solid with this host. But this year, they broke the SSL cert and it basically brought my site down right in the heat of the contest.
I emailed them no less than 15 times and called more that 10 times. Not once did they answer the phone and only answered my email with, and here's the actual reply: "The development team has been notified of the malfunction. However, because they are a small team with limited availability and are currently busy [read more...]

😞 When I first began hosting my SmarterMail service on their servers I was impressed. Tech support was very quick and helpful. They even helped me by supporting my SmarterMail software which was not part of the offering.
Then something changed. No more phone support. Instead submit a chat window in their website and wait up to hours for a response. Over the 3 years I have experienced about 5 significant outages. To me a significant outage is anything over 1 hour for a mail server. Each time it happened I'm stuck on the phone with 100+ angry customers. They replaced my SEP protection with their own and no notice. Their endpoint protection software prevented me from RDP. The final straw is the extremely poor performance over the past few weeks. Freezing up my server and waiting until they get around to rebooting it. Stay away from these guys.

😃 Wonderful Value, Reliable Hosting
Hostek offers a great deal on ColdFusion hosting and is responsive to inquiries. Any issues I've had have been resolved in a reasonable amount of time. I am very happy with my hosting services. I have 3 domains currently hosted with them and will probably add more in the future.

Hostek is a long-running managed hosting provider that has been active since 1998, operating under Miss Group, Inc. d/b/a Hostek.com. They work with staff in both the United States and the United Kingdom and focus strongly on managed servers and application hosting rather than just cheap shared plans. Over the years they have grown into a platform managing thousands of servers and many thousands of customer sites, with a clear emphasis on ColdFusion, Windows, and managed VPS/cloud environments.
They offer most of what a small or mid-sized business might need:
- VPS / Cloud servers on Windows and Linux (including cPanel VPS) with options for managed and unmanaged setups.
- Specialized ColdFusion and Lucee hosting, both on shared environments and on dedicated VPS/cloud servers.
- Classic shared hosting for Windows (ASP.NET, MS SQL, PHP) and Linux (cPanel/PHP/MySQL), including WordPress-optimized variants.
- Reseller hosting for Windows, Lucee/ColdFusion and cPanel, often built on top of VPS for better isolation and scalability.
- Email hosting based on SmarterMail, SSL certificates, domain registration, load-balanced and geo-failover setups, VPN/VLAN solutions and extra security options such as Monarx protection and identity monitoring services.
A distinctive element is their long-term commitment to ColdFusion and Lucee. Many mainstream hosts have quietly dropped CFML stacks, while Hostek still offers ColdFusion-focused shared and VPS plans with integrated tools (datasources/DSNs, scheduled tasks, CFAdmin integration, ColdFusion version switching) and a custom Windows control panel adapted to CF workloads. For agencies and legacy applications that still depend on ColdFusion, that kind of specialization is quite valuable.
Infrastructure is built across multiple Tier 3 and Tier 4 data centers rather than a single site. Servers can be placed in St. Louis (Central US), Ashburn, Virginia (East Coast US), Reading (UK), Enfield (London, UK), plus Kungälv and Karlskrona (Sweden). This spread facilitates low latency for different regions and allows for multi-site designs where applications can fail over between data centers.
The website, help center and control panels are in English, and pricing on hostek.com is shown in US dollars. There is also a separate hostek.co.uk presence for the UK market and hostek.se for Sweden/Nordic.
Overall, Hostek is a mid-market managed hosting provider: not a "budget" host, but a platform aimed at businesses that want stable infrastructure, long-term stacks like Windows/ColdFusion, and a support team that can step in at server level.
💰 Price & Cost
Hostek’s pricing is set above the ultra-cheap shared-hosting players but in line with managed infrastructure and strong SLAs. Exact numbers vary between product lines and promotions, but the general picture looks like this:
- Shared hosting for Windows, cPanel/Linux, ColdFusion and Lucee sits in the low to moderate monthly range, with the usual difference between small single-site plans and larger multi-domain packages.
- Managed VPS / cloud servers start noticeably higher and climb with CPU, RAM and SSD storage. For example, Windows cloud server plans can start in the low hundreds of dollars per month for 4 vCPU, double-digit RAM and several hundred gigabytes of SSD, with larger configurations priced proportionally higher.
- Unmanaged Linux VPS options are available for those who are comfortable administering their own servers and want to trim costs by skipping management and control-panel licensing.
Several financial details are worth noting:
- There are no setup fees and no long-term contracts for the standard hosting products. Customers can pay monthly or annually and cancel at any time.
- The company promotes a "100% satisfaction" money-back approach. For VPS and similar services they offer a full refund in the first 30 days if they cannot resolve an issue, and a pro-rated refund or credit for any unused period after that. Many of the product pages mention "anytime money-back" combined with pro-rated credits when a customer leaves after the initial 30-day window.
- Some refunds are issued as account credit rather than cash, especially when the original payment route is no longer available or where the Terms specify credits for SLA breaches and similar situations.
Payment methods include credit card and PayPal as standard options. The Terms also allow checks and ACH/bank transfers above certain minimum amounts, sometimes with handling fees for mid-sized payments and with smaller checks simply not accepted.
Renewals are handled automatically when there is a card on file: invoices are generated and typically charged around 20 days before the renewal date to avoid interruption. Customers who prefer to pay manually can remove stored payment details and handle invoices themselves, but should then watch due dates more carefully.
In short, Hostek is not a low-cost, bare-bones host. Prices reflect the combination of managed services, strong uptime guarantees and a fairly complex infrastructure, making them more suitable for businesses that value reliability and support than for hobby projects.
🏢 Data Center
Hostek’s data-center footprint is genuinely one of its strongest aspects. They operate infrastructure across several Tier 3 and Tier 4 facilities in North America and Europe:
- St. Louis, Missouri (USA) / H5 Data Centers (formerly the Globe Building) – A Tier 3 facility in the most connected building in the city. This is their original location, centrally placed in the US and still widely used by customers needing balanced latency across the country.
- Ashburn, Virginia (USA) – Another Tier 3 data center in one of the main internet hubs on the US East Coast (databank.com or Equinix or Digital Realty ), with very strong connectivity and proximity to dense population centers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
- Reading (United Kingdom) – A Tier 4 data center just outside London, with completely new Dell compute and Dell Compellent enterprise storage built fully on SSD for performance. Infrastructure here is described as fully redundant "top down," aimed at UK and EU workloads.
- Kungälv, Sweden (formerly part of ilait) – A Tier 3 facility originally built to house mainframe computers with military-grade physical security. It has since been modernized, keeping heavy security measures while adding geographically redundant fiber connections. This site runs entirely on 100% renewable energy and is designed to minimize energy waste. Using Telenor Sverige AB and GlobalConnect for IP-Only.
- Karlskrona, Sweden (formerly or Ballou Hosting) – Another Tier 3 facility in a historic building dating back to 1905, renovated for modern infrastructure and connected via redundant fiber.
- Enfield, London (UK) – A data center in VIRTUS LONDON1 campus with full redundancy in power, cooling, fire suppression, connectivity and on-site security. It is stated to exceed Tier III standards and also operates on 100% renewable power as part of their green initiative.
Official ISP Entity: Hostek AB. Primary AS Number: AS29024 (Hostek AB). Secondary AS Number: AS61207 (Hostek.se)
Across these locations, Hostek underlines a strong focus on uptime and redundancy:
- They commit to 99.99% server uptime in their Service Level Agreement. In a 30-day month they allow only a few minutes of full downtime per server; if that threshold is exceeded, customers can request service credits that scale up to 100% of the affected server’s monthly fee, depending on the actual downtime level.
- At network level they guarantee 99.999% uptime for core routing devices. If this network uptime target is missed, they offer service credits up to 200% of the monthly fee for the affected service, applied against current or future invoices.
- Perimeter firewalls and antivirus on every server are included at no additional cost, and the platform is monitored around the clock, with proactive patching and security updates applied to managed environments.
- Nightly backups are provided by default using a third-party tool. Hostek recommends that customers also maintain offsite backups but still includes daily backup coverage as part of the infrastructure.
On top of single-server setups, they actively promote geo-failover and load-balanced multi-server architectures, where application nodes can be distributed across multiple data centers. For higher-end customers this allows maintenance and localized incidents to be handled with minimal disruption.
Overall, the infrastructure places Hostek firmly in the category of a serious managed hosting platform with multiple regions and a detailed SLA, rather than a single-rack reseller.
✍️ Customer Support
Customer support is a key part of Hostek’s value proposition. They stress 24/7 assistance from a US-based team and emphasize that their technicians respond in minutes, not hours, especially for customers on managed server plans.
Support and contact options include:
- Live chat integrated through the site and the help center, visible in the bottom-right of the screen for quick questions.
- Email support via the addresses sales@hostek and support@hostek.
- Telephone support on +1 918 392 7870, useful when troubleshooting business-critical issues or discussing architecture.
- A Help Center with a relatively extensive knowledge base, covering both end-user topics (email configuration, WordPress, DNS) and more advanced server-management subjects.
- A ticket system accessed through the client area and help center, with categorization for billing, technical and sales issues.
- A separate service-status page, where customers can check ongoing incidents and maintenance windows.
For formal complaints there is a published Complaints Policy that describes an investigation process, acknowledgement with a case reference, and targets like an initial response within a few business days and resolution for most issues within roughly a working week, with updates for more complex cases.
In day-to-day use, the combination of live chat, email, phone, tickets and documentation gives customers several ways to reach the team. For businesses that do not have in-house sysadmins, that level of access to knowledgeable staff is often more important than shaving a few dollars off the monthly fee.
🔨 Control Panel
Hostek’s control-panel strategy combines widely used industry tools with their own Windows-specific system, depending on the underlying platform:
- Linux shared hosting and Linux VPS/reseller plans rely on cPanel & WHM. This is familiar territory for most PHP/MySQL and WordPress users, and the platform makes it straightforward to handle email accounts, databases, SSL, backups and file management. Linux VPS customers can choose managed cPanel servers, where Hostek takes care of system updates and tuning.
- Windows shared hosting and Windows-based VPS use a custom Windows Control Panel (WCP) developed in-house. This panel is integrated tightly with IIS, ColdFusion and SmarterMail. It allows management of sites, application pools, virtual directories, databases (MS SQL and MySQL/MariaDB in the Windows environment), scheduled tasks, DNS records, SSL, web application firewall settings and more, directly from a browser. WCP is included with relevant Windows VPS plans at no extra charge.
- For ColdFusion and Lucee environments, the Windows control panel adds specific features such as ColdFusion error-log access, ColdFusion version selection and CFAdmin-related tasks, which simplifies life for developers who would otherwise have to jump between multiple tools.
- In addition to hosting control panels, there is a separate billing/control panel at cp.hostek.com, where customers manage invoices, services, upgrades and support tickets.
Customers who prefer full hands-on control can also opt for unmanaged VPS with no panel installed, administering servers purely over SSH (Linux) or RDP (Windows) while still benefiting from Hostek’s network and data-center platform.
The end result is flexible: standard cPanel for classic Linux hosting, a powerful WCP for Windows/ColdFusion workloads, and the option to strip the interface away entirely for advanced users.
🎯 Conclusion
Hostek is a specialized managed hosting provider with a long track record and a strong technical backbone. Their strengths are clear:- Multi-region, high-tier infrastructure across the US, UK and Sweden, with Tier 3 and Tier 4 data centers, renewable-energy locations and the option to design geo-redundant architectures.
- A firm uptime and SLA model, combining 99.99% server uptime with 99.999% network uptime and service credits up to 200% of the monthly fee when targets are missed.
- Deep Windows, ColdFusion and Lucee expertise, including a custom Windows control panel and ColdFusion-aware tooling that many competitors no longer offer.
- A managed-services mindset where they take responsibility for updates, security, monitoring and backups, leaving customers to focus on their applications rather than server maintenance.
- 24/7 support with phone, live chat, email and ticket channels, backed by a detailed help center and formal complaint handling.
On the other side, Hostek is not the cheapest option for simple sites. A basic hobby project or very small blog can certainly run there, but the platform and pricing are clearly targeted at users who care about uptime, SLAs and specialized stacks more than about minimal monthly cost. Refunds may also come as credits rather than always as direct cash back, especially in SLA scenarios, which is worth understanding up front.
For companies running Windows, ColdFusion or complex WordPress/PHP projects, or for agencies that want reliable reseller and VPS infrastructure with strong support, Hostek is a robust and credible choice. For someone just looking for the lowest-priced, unmanaged VPS, there are leaner alternatives, but they will typically not match this combination of infrastructure, SLAs and managed expertise.

😠 Horrible hosting company! Deleted years of work on my blog when my credit card expired and they were sending a reminder to the wrong email address. By the time I had noticed they took down my site and deleted my database and files without ever giving me a copy or saving a copy. My backup hard drive with my site crashed so without it my site is gone forever. Not helpful at when I contacted support.

😠 Awful Service - The Worst
Hostek used to be a great company. Now their support personnel routinely answer your inquiries with wrong answers or answers that make no sense. They simply don't even try anymore. I have tried speaking with a manager several times but they just ignore my requests. This company clearly doesn't care about it's customers or their problems.
Their downtime is inexcusable and their critical infrastructure has been down so much I have had to move all my critical services back to my own servers. Last month, their entire DNS server infrastructure went down for hours and my customers thought I went out of business when all our sites and support services were down for most of the day.
This company has done more to hurt my business than anyone or anything else. Stay FAR away from Hostek as they are AWFUL! Just search Twitter for Hostek and read the endless complaints and problems about downtime.

😠 Rudest staff I've ever dealy with.
I have been in the web business since 1995 and I've always hosted my own servers. A huge number of my domains were acquired so I figured I would move to a VPS solution at Hostek. Well what a huge mistake. Aside from having both a rude and inept service dept. I've just been informed that the backups I was paying for we're never performed and due to their poor security I have lost over a months worth of data. And on top of it all they were about as rude as you can get over the situation.

Site literally goes down every week. Usually I have to tell them what to do to fix it. Even then, they dont listen. They keep playing around trying to figure out what I already told them while I sit here losing money. (ecommerce site)

😁 Excellent Company
I've hosted 4 sites with Hostek. Two for clients and two are mine. I have on numerous occasions contacted Hostek both through their ticket system and via phone and they have always jumped right on my issue and gotten the issues resolved as soon as possible.
I've found Hostek's pricing extremely reasonable and best of all, their customer support has always been amazing considering the price that I'm paying.
I highly recommend Hostek. :)

😁 For all of you harden Coldfusion developers out there: STOP SEARCHING! Hostek has it all! A simple (not "bloated"), straight forward, amazingly intuitive control panel, lightning fast servers - my heavy CF applications backed by millions of records load faster than I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot...) a speedy tech support team and yes, believe it or not - those Coldfusion web services that work! You can connect to the outside world including your home computer (running Railo, Blue Dragon, etc...) so you can host those ginormous data bases at home. I've been looking for a CF web services friendly hosting company for more than a year and tried pretty much every major one out there - none of them worked (when it comes to CF web services). So stop wasting your time and go Hostek! 😞 Hostek steady going downhill the past 8 years
Lots of down time with Hostek the past year, especially with database servers. Hostek is not what they used to be when we began with them 8 years ago. Quality of their hosting has gone steadily downhill each year. We're looking for a new host with our 6 domains due to the latest database server down time and extreme slowness where they've overloaded the capability of the server.

😁 Hostek is a beaming spotlight in the dark and dangerous virtual world of faceless transactions, over the web.
They have consistently exceeded expectations for support calls, with intuitive understanding of all issues and requests, and have satisfied them at remarkable speed, every single time. The staff is always available, capable and courteous, with a strong emphasis on customer-service. The uptime and capabilities are stellar.
I am thoroughly content with the company (which is quite a rare thing these days). I am so glad I found them in my search for a reasonably priced Coldfusion host. I have enthusiastically referred them to other developers, and will host every site I develop with Hostek for the foreseeable future. Please don't ever change, upgrades aside!

😁 I was recommended to Hostek as an inexpensive and feature-filled ColdFusion hosting company. I figured the price was too low to actually be an effective host, so I tried a few other hosting companies first. I actually signed up with one but didn't get farther than a week before I had problems with uptime and feature availability. Fortunately, I was still in my trial period and I cancelled immediately. My next try was with Hostek, and it has been AWESOME so far. I had a few questions and issues during my transition, but their tech support was able to get back to me within an hour or so on each of four occasions, and ALL issues were resolved with either a pointer to a knowledge base item or personalized help. Two of my help tickets were created in the middle of the night, and I still got help almost immediately.
I really am impressed with Hostek so far. Granted I haven't been with them long, but for the price, and for the features (far more ColdFusion support than other hosts), I [read more...]

😠 Arbitrary changes to TOS as a way to charge more money once you have a reseller account and it is too difficult to migrate your customers to a new host.
Tech support is a bunch of ninnies, and administation/sales personal are inconsistent and seem like rejects from GoDaddy.

😠 Three years ago I started doing business with Hostek. I found that they were fair and had tech people who would address issues with knowledge and experience, rather than just blow you off to a support ticket system or blame you for for server issues. They were a refreshing change from GoDaddy.
Since then, I have opened two reseller accounts and added on two dozen clients. In the past six months, the last four clients that I have added to my account have been nothing but problems with the hosting. Hostek now blows you off to a support ticket system, that seems to be largely ignored for days at a time. When you call up with an OPEN ticket number, they tell you that you have to open up tet ANOTHER ticket, if it involves even a simple question. I end up spending as much non billable time deal with recurring tech issues as I did with GoDaddy.
The techs they have working for them now are rude, and impolite and seem to just want to get you off of the phone as quickly as [read more...]

😁 We currently have four domains hosted by Hostek, the first going online in 2004, and I have nothing but praise for their hosting and support. We are enrolled through their non-profit hosting packages, and I have yet to find anything to match them. The only difficulty I've ever had was when they upgraded their ASP.NET and some of my code didn't work, but the fault was with my sloppy programming.
