📄 Editorial Review
Hostek is a long-running managed hosting provider that has been active since 1998, operating under Miss Group, Inc. d/b/a Hostek.com. They work with staff in both the United States and the United Kingdom and focus strongly on managed servers and application hosting rather than just cheap shared plans. Over the years they have grown into a platform managing thousands of servers and many thousands of customer sites, with a clear emphasis on ColdFusion, Windows, and managed VPS/cloud environments. They offer most of what a small or mid-sized business might need:
- VPS / Cloud servers on Windows and Linux (including cPanel VPS) with options for managed and unmanaged setups.
- Specialized ColdFusion and Lucee hosting, both on shared environments and on dedicated VPS/cloud servers.
- Classic shared hosting for Windows (ASP.NET, MS SQL, PHP) and Linux (cPanel/PHP/MySQL), including WordPress-optimized variants.
- Reseller hosting for Windows, Lucee/ColdFusion and cPanel, often built on top of VPS for better isolation and scalability.
- Email hosting based on SmarterMail, SSL certificates, domain registration, load-balanced and geo-failover setups, VPN/VLAN solutions and extra security options such as Monarx protection and identity monitoring services.
A distinctive element is their long-term commitment to ColdFusion and Lucee. Many mainstream hosts have quietly dropped CFML stacks, while Hostek still offers ColdFusion-focused shared and VPS plans with integrated tools (datasources/DSNs, scheduled tasks, CFAdmin integration, ColdFusion version switching) and a custom Windows control panel adapted to CF workloads. For agencies and legacy applications that still depend on ColdFusion, that kind of specialization is quite valuable.
Infrastructure is built across multiple Tier 3 and Tier 4 data centers rather than a single site. Servers can be placed in St. Louis (Central US), Ashburn, Virginia (East Coast US), Reading (UK), Enfield (London, UK), plus Kungälv and Karlskrona (Sweden). This spread facilitates low latency for different regions and allows for multi-site designs where applications can fail over between data centers.
The website, help center and control panels are in English, and pricing on hostek.com is shown in US dollars. There is also a separate hostek.co.uk presence for the UK market and hostek.se for Sweden/Nordic.
Overall, Hostek is a mid-market managed hosting provider: not a "budget" host, but a platform aimed at businesses that want stable infrastructure, long-term stacks like Windows/ColdFusion, and a support team that can step in at server level.

😠 The Hostek of years past is not the Hostek of today!
Okay, I don't even know where to start. I have used Hostek for the past 20 years minimum. Everything was great until the last 3 weeks.
First, I know they are migrating to Ohio, but in that process, they broke a contesting site that I have hosted with them for more than 15 years. Basically, when moving the sites to another state, they didn't take into account the SSL certs. needed to be updated.
I have a contesting site in the state of Texas for newspapers and it's always been solid with this host. But this year, they broke the SSL cert and it basically brought my site down right in the heat of the contest.
I emailed them no less than 15 times and called more that 10 times. Not once did they answer the phone and only answered my email with, and here's the actual reply: "The development team has been notified of the malfunction. However, because they are a small team with limited availability and are currently busy assisting with that IP migration project, it may be some time before the feature can be repaired."
So my site is offline and there is no timeline on a solution.
Be careful who you select as your host folks.
I would have to guess that the reason they are migrating to Ohio is that they were 'acquired'. I would hope the new owner sees this post and makes adjustments. That's a nice way of saying Get your S*** together!
By the way, I've worked in this industry since it WAS an industry. 20 years at a a newspaper and now working at a university for the past 6 years.
I am truly amazed at the sheer disregard for my situation, Hostek! My jaw is on the ground! New owner, take note of what is going on, if you care.
Just know that I'll be transferring my sites to another host that actually answers their phone. Or at the very least, as your voicemail states (which never happened) , returns my call.
Sorry I'm so vocal about this. I'm just in shock and disappointed. Hostek! You were so great! What happened?
