ProFreeHost is a free web hosting provider operating since 2016, focused almost entirely on free Linux shared hosting. The service is closely connected with iFastNet, which supplies the underlying hosting infrastructure and network platform. ProFreeHost does not maintain a conventional catalog of VPS, dedicated servers or cloud instances; its main purpose is to provide a functional PHP/MySQL hosting environment without a recurring hosting charge.

The free account includes 5 GB disk space, unlimited bandwidth, 10 addon domains, 10 parked domains and 10 MySQL databases. Individual files are limited to 10 MB, an important restriction for websites containing large uploads, backup archives, videos or sizable software packages. For ordinary HTML and PHP websites, lightweight CMS installations and smaller media files, the available storage is otherwise quite generous for a completely free account.

The hosting environment uses Linux and Apache, with PHP available up to PHP 8.2 and MySQL 5.7 for databases. Standard development and management features include .htaccess support, cron jobs, configurable PHP settings, FTP access, an online file manager, phpMyAdmin, custom error pages, password-protected directories, IP blocking and website statistics.

Softaculous is integrated into the hosting environment and provides automated installation for more than 300 applications, including WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. This makes the service particularly convenient for users learning how to work with a CMS or for developers who need a temporary PHP application environment without first purchasing a hosting package.

A visual website builder is also available through Site.pro. It provides drag-and-drop site creation and responsive templates for users who prefer building pages visually instead of installing a CMS or coding the website manually.

Customers can use a free subdomain or connect their own domain name. Existing domains can be attached to the account by changing their nameservers and then adding them through the hosting control panel. The service uses the broader Byet/iFastNet hosting infrastructure for domain routing and account provisioning.

Email hosting is included, with domain-based mailboxes, webmail, forwarding, MX management and SPF support. Custom CNAME records are also supported, although advanced DNS configurations may be easier to manage through a dedicated external DNS service.

SSL is available for both free subdomains and custom domains. Free subdomains benefit from SSL coverage, while customers using their own domains can install certificates from providers such as Let's Encrypt or ZeroSSL. Integration with Cloudflare is also possible, adding SSL termination, caching, filtering and additional protection in front of a hosted website.

One of the more attractive characteristics of ProFreeHost is its No Forced Ads approach. Websites hosted by customers are not required to display ProFreeHost advertising banners. Advertising can appear within ProFreeHost's own services and interfaces, helping finance the free platform without placing compulsory promotional content on customer websites.

Unlimited bandwidth is subject to fair-use resource limits. Free accounts have restrictions covering CPU consumption, execution time, concurrent processes, database activity, account hits and file counts. One of the most important limits is approximately 50,000 hits per day. A hit represents an individual file or HTTP request rather than a unique visitor, so pages containing many images, scripts and stylesheets can consume this allowance significantly faster than their visitor count might suggest.

The account also has a file and directory limit of approximately 30,000 inodes. This can become important on WordPress websites because plugins, themes, cache files, thumbnails and temporary files can consume thousands of inodes even when total disk usage remains far below the 5 GB storage allowance.

CPU-intensive activity can result in automatic restrictions or suspension. Large backup processes, aggressive security scanners, resource-heavy page builders, excessive database activity and unusually busy websites are therefore poor matches for this type of free shared-hosting platform. Projects that consistently exceed the free resource limits are better moved to a commercial hosting environment.

The service permits a maximum of three free hosting accounts per person. Additional accounts can be treated as an attempt to circumvent the resource limits and may result in termination of related accounts.

Free hosting also comes with clear content and usage restrictions. The platform cannot be used as general-purpose file storage, a file-sharing service, proxy infrastructure, IRC or shell hosting, a bulk-mail platform, a server-intensive processing environment or a distribution point for illegal or copyright-infringing material. Storage is intended primarily for active website content.

Backups are an important limitation. Free hosting accounts do not include customer-restorable backups as a normal hosting feature. Website files should therefore be downloaded regularly through FTP, while MySQL databases can be exported through phpMyAdmin. A $9.99 charge can apply when ProFreeHost is specifically asked to prepare a manual backup, although the fee can be waived at their discretion.

Remote MySQL access is restricted. Applications hosted inside the account can connect to the assigned MySQL server, and databases can be managed with phpMyAdmin, but external desktop applications and remote servers cannot normally connect directly to databases hosted on the free platform. Applications must also use the database hostname assigned to the account rather than assuming that the database server is localhost.

ProFreeHost works particularly well for learning PHP and MySQL, experimenting with WordPress, creating personal websites, hosting lightweight informational projects and maintaining temporary development installations. Resource-intensive WordPress setups, ecommerce stores, large media sites, API platforms and business-critical applications are much less suitable because predictable performance, backup restoration and contractual service guarantees are more important in those situations.
