📅 - In some ways, this week was an average week in the Web hosting industry, with news of several acquisitions, as well as the launch of a number of new services. But in one particular way, it was a week of major significance in the hosting business, with some critical developments in the fate of Cable & Wireless's U.S. hosting division. On Thursday, theWHIR reported that sources had indicated the US Web hosting division of Cable & Wireless was considering filing for bankruptcy on Friday evening. The development came as the company appeared to be faltering its efforts to land a buyer for the US hosting division. 📅 - HP and Oracle Top 1 Million Transactions - Hewlett-Packard (hp.com) and Oracle (oracle.com) announced yesterday that they have become the first companies to top the one million transactions per minute barrier on the Transaction Processing Council's TPC-C benchmark. The results were achieved running Oracle database 10g on an HP Integrity Superdome server and Intel Intanium 2 processors. HP and Oracle achieved 1,008,144.49 tpmC with a price/performance ratio of $8.33/tpmC. The industry record results were 30 percent faster than those of the nearest competitive hardware vendor, the companies said. 📅 - Equinix Commences Public Offering - Equinix (equinix.com), a provider of network-neutral data centers, said yesterday that it will commence a public offering of 3.5 million shares of common stock. The company said it plans to use the proceeds from the offering to repay debt, pursue possible acquisitions and invest in capital expenditure. According to the company, Equinix stockholder STT Communications, a subsidiary of Singaporean telco carrier Singapore Technologies Telemedia, has agreed to purchase 916,500 of the 3.5 million shares in the offering at the public offering price. 📅 - EV1Servers Increases Power, to Open 2nd IDC - EV1Servers (ev1servers.net) said today that is has expanded the power capacity of its data center and plans to open a second Houston area facility in March. In September, Houston utility provider CenterPoint Energy informed EV1Servers that its local power grid would be unable to support the company's continued growth.
