Apr 13, 2004 : American Fiber Systems Signs New Deals

📅 - Metropolitan optical solutions provider American Fiber Systems (AFS) (americanfibersystems.com) announced on Tuesday that it had signed separate agreements with Global Crossing and Level 3, through which AFS will provide IP transit services from those companies in a variety of US markets.

AFS said it had chosen Global Crossing as one of its suppliers for Ethernet Internet access services to customers in Cleveland, Kansas City, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Nashville and Salt Lake City. AFS will offer Global Crossing's IP transit service, which provides IP connection into Global Crossing's Internet backbone through Global Crossing POPs in each city.
The company also said it had signed a deal that would allow AFS to offer IP transit services from Level 3 in the same five cities. Level 3's (3)CrossRoads service, which features high-capacity, scalable peering interconnections, will also support AFS's Ethernet Internet access service.
AFS says the service provides Ethernet-based connections to the Internet backbone with bandwidth rates starting at 10Mbps and reaching GIG-E, with customers able to choose specific, custom bandwidth rates.
