📅 August 12, 2004 - Web hosting automation software developer SWsoft (sw-soft.com) announced on Thursday that PEM, its carrier-grade operations support system and business support system, now fully supports Microsoft (microsoft.com) technologies, including Windows hosting, Exchange, SharePoint, ASP.NET and Microsoft Provisioning System. With the support for Microsoft tehcnologies, service providers will now be able to offer messaging, collaboration and other services through a single solution, the company said.

PEM is a distributed, modular, multi-tiered hosting automation platform that is scalable to millions of customer accounts, customizable and extendable with custom modules. The solution, SWsoft said, also allows for easy integration into a provider's existing infrastructure.
PEM's OSS provides centralized resource management, service provisioning and infrastructure management. PEM's BSS performs multi-tier resource usage accounting and billing. The OSS and BSS solutions are interoperable and integrated, but can be deployed and used separately.
According to SWsoft, the benefits of the two solutions include lower cost and complexity, faster time to market for new offerings, and the ability to effectively attract, upsell and retain customers.
"Hosting is rapidly evolving into important new areas such as messaging and collaboration," says Kurt Daniel, director of marketing for SWsoft. "Microsoft continues to make Windows, IIS, ASP.NET, Exchange and SharePoint more suitable for service providers. Now there is no limit for Hosters, ISPs and Telcos to take advantage of new revenue opportunities on the Microsoft platform by leveraging SWsoft's PEM solution. Now, Linux-only hosters who have no experience or trained support on Windows can use PEM to easily manage and grow their business to take advantage of the rapid adoption of Windows hosting."

The outage came shortly before version 5.3 of FreeBSD's Unix-based operating system was to enter beta testing.
