Mar 18, 2005 : OPEC Selects Speedera for Streaming
📅 - Speedera Networks (speedera.com), a provider of application hosting and content delivery services, announced on Thursday that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries had selected Speedera to deliver live and on-demand streaming of its global conferences.
"To reach our global audience, OPEC required a robust, distributed platform to deliver our streamed video content to anyone anywhere in the world interested in viewing the proceedings of our global conferences," says Omar Farouk Ibrahim, head of the public relations and information department at OPEC. "OPEC chose Speedera because they proved to us they could provide reliable, high quality streaming services and handle any sudden surges in traffic to our site. We are in the petroleum business, not the Internet infrastructure business, and that's why we turned to the experts."
Speedera recently streamed OPEC's ministerial conference and a press conference in Iran on Wednesday, March 16, 2005.
"Streaming content from a distributed global network of servers - closer to users - using an outsourced solution like Speedera's enables organizations like OPEC to have added capacity on demand and extend their global reach without incurring enormous infrastructure and management costs by building out their own network," says Ajit Gupta, president and CEO of Speedera Networks.
Earlier this week, Akamai Technologies announced that it had acquired Speedera Networks in an all-stock transaction.
