📅 - OptiGlobe (optiglobe.com), a leading provider of enterprise and Internet Data Center services in Latin America, announced on Wednesday that it has opened its third data center. The $100 million new facility, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has 104,000 square feet of space and can host up to 7,500 servers in its initial configuration. The facility is designed to be expandable to a total of 312,000 square feet.
The carrier-neutral Rio de Janeiro data center is the second facility OptiGlobe has opened this month, and its third in five months. The company opened a 112,000 square foot center in Buenos Aires on April 4, and a 159,000 square foot data center in Sao Paolo in November of 2000. According to OptiGlobe, with nearly 400,000 square feet of space in service, the company is the region's fastest growing provider of Internet data center services.
OptiGlobe says the new center is a perfect complement to its other existing facilities. The company says it is the only provider with 100,000-plus square foot data centers in Brazil's two largest cities, and in South America's three largest cities. As a result, the company says it is uniquely positioned to deliver services both locally and across the region.
With a population of more than 11 million people, says OptiGlobe, Rio de Janeiro is home to some of Brazil's largest companies. And many of these companies are working to improve their competitiveness and productivity by creating Internet applications. These applications, says Optiglobe, need to reside in data centers designed to deliver world-class quality, security and connectivity.
OptiGlobe's data centers are connected to Tier 1 peering points in the United States, and to multiple carrier networks via fiber connections. Because the company is a carrier-neutral service provider, its customers are free to partner with the carrier whose service they feel best fits their needs. The carriers servicing the new Rio de Janeiro center include Embratel, Light Telecom, Impsat, Telemar, Vesper, Global Crossing and 360networks.
