📅 - critical power and cooling services provider APC by Schneider Electric (apc.com) and independent IT management software company CA (ca.com) have announced a partnership that will create a full set of solutions for assessing and fully optimizing data center energy consumption.
According to the agreement announced Thursday, APC will offer its assessment services, integration services and physical layer management software. In turn, CA will provide enterprise-level monitoring and management software and related services solutions.
"Energy availability and consumption is now a major consideration in ongoing IT operations support," IT research firm Illuminata (illuminata.com) senior analyst John Webster said in a statement.
"This hardware-agnostic market pairing is exactly the sort of relationship building we need in the IT energy conservation space," Webster said.
High energy costs and contracting budgets are making it increasingly important for companies to operate their data centers more efficiently. Energy costs, now about 10 percent of the average IT budget, could rise to 50 percent in a matter of years unless companies take radical measures according to Dataquest projections published in May 2008.
"As part of the larger Schneider Electric family, we have a wealth of experience in all areas of data center and facility infrastructure so it is a natural fit for APC to integrate the energy, power and cooling elements into the CA Enterprise IT Management framework," APC data center solutions, services, and software senior vice president John DiPippo said in a statement.
"When combined with CA's Infrastructure Management and Data Center Automation solutions," DiPippo said, "enterprise customers will have the capability to connect physical layer information to the dependent business processes enabling active energy management across their data center."
APC Professional Services audits data centers and provides customers with detailed improvement plans including power management and cooling solutions.
