Jun, 2001 : Internap Announces Flood Relief for Houston Businesses

📅 June 12, 2001 - Internap Network Services (Internap.com -> inap.com), the leading provider of intelligent routing services over the Internet, announced on Monday that it would begin offering a relief package for Houston businesses that may have lost their Internet connectivity due to water damage sustained by connectivity centers in the recent Houston floods. Internap's Houston service point maintained service to customers during the storm.

Subject to availability, Internap is offering 45 days of free 10 megabit Ethernet connectivity and collocation space in its Houston Internet Connectivity Center, which did not sustain storm damage.
?Many Houston businesses have lost Internet connectivity due to the flood damage in their data centers, and this is one small way in which Internap can help get these businesses back in operation,? said Tony Naughtin, Chief Executive Officer for Internap Network Services. ?Having recently weathered a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Seattle, and more recently the massive flooding in Houston, Internap's connectivity service is well suited to withstand disasters because of its highly redundant Overlay Network architecture, that connects to all of the major Internet backbones, and the structural integrity of our data centers.?
The flooding affected many data centers, central offices and other Internet related facilities, causing service outages for Houston-area businesses and residents.
Internap's service point, located at 1301 Fannin Street in Houston, features redundant and alternative power supplies, state-of-the-art fire detection and suppression systems, and 24-hour uniformed security with centrally monitored digital cameras and on-site data backup security, as well as 200 mile-per-hour hurricane resistant glass. Internap's collocation facilities provide its customers with secure, controlled environments in which to house their Internet hardware, such as routers and servers. In addition, the sites offer connectivity to Internap's Service Point for high performance Internet access.
The company says its overlay network monitors the traffic situation over all the major Internet backbones and routes data in a faster, more reliable, and more managed fashion than conventional Internet technology.
