Jul 16, 2001 : Sun and EDS Extend Partnership

📅 July 16, 2001 - Expanding their 15-year business relationship, EDS (eds.com) and Sun Microsystems, Inc (sun.com) today announced a program tojointly offer customers an array of complementary, on_demand IT offerings,including web site management, data center outsourcing and ASP hostingservices based on Sun's platform.

The companies expect the "Continuum of Services" program to generate $3billion in future sales over the next five years.
Sun is to provide the hardware, software and architecture, including SunEnterprise servers, Sun StorEdg products, the Sun Open Net Environmentarchitecture, Java technology and technical consulting expertise and iPlanetsoftware.
EDS provides services including systems implementation, integration,consulting and outsourcing.
"The Sun and EDS model enables choice and flexibility so customers canselect the solution that is right for them," said Masood Jabbar, executivevice president of global sales operations for Sun Microsystems.
The Sun_EDS program includes joint work in development, promotion,marketing, revenue targets, planned cross_training, account planning,offering development and marketing strategies.
"We believe the strategic selling model has changed. Customers demandspeed, expertise and the type of relationship that bring all solutionelements together __ hardware, software, services and integration," saidJohn Wilkerson, vice president, EDS. He says that this partnership willallow EDS to target more specific industries, and should also result inlower costs for their customers.
