Jul, 2001 : OptiGlobe Inks Deal With Latin American Trading Giant

📅 - In a deal that could mean some serious business in the future, OptiGlobe announced this week that it had signed up the giant international company Itochu Corporation (itochu.com) as its latest customer.
OptiGlobe, a leading provider of Internet data center services for Latin America announced on Monday that it would be providing infrastructure, connectivity and managed services to Itochu, described by Fortune magazine as the 13th largest company in the world, with revenues of over $109 billion in 2000.
Itochu provides trading services for more than 20,000 goods, along with operating an assortment of telecommunications, information technology, Internet, media and retail subsidiaries.
OptiGlobe says its deal is with Itochu Argentina, a division of Itochu Corporation's largest and most profitable subsidiary. Itochu Argentina is set up to provide technology consulting and integration services in Latin Amercia for a range of multi-national customers, including companies like Mitsubishi and Izusu.
"In its quest to provide the most reliable, high performance solutions to our customers, Itochu Argentina needed to work with an IDC services company that not only had world-class infrastructure and redundant connectivity, but also offered a broad range of managed services," said Alberto Mochinaga, Chief Technology Officer at Itochu Argentina. "When we evaluated all the players in the space, OptiGlobe was the clear choice.?
The first project to be set up in OptiGlobe's Buenos Aires data center was Kmcero.com, a portal designed to help customers to research, compare and purchase automobiles online. The site, which Itochu Argentina helped build, was supplied with connectivity and a full rack of colocation space. Itochu is also making use of several of OptiGlobe's managed services, including monitoring, reporting, backup and security services, in an effort to optimize the site's performance.
"We are very pleased with the success Itochu and its customers have experienced with OptiGlobe," said Bob Rouse, President and Chief Operating Officer at OptiGlobe. "OptiGlobe's flexible and complete offering helped Kmcero.com get up and running quickly. The site is sustaining more than 30,000 hits a month and is growing quickly."
And so long as things continue to go well, OptiGlobe's deal with the multinational giant could mean plenty of future benefits for the smaller communications company, by way of involvement in some of the company's continued operations. "Based on Itochu's success with OptiGlobe, we are looking forward to working with them closely to implement other projects,? said Mochinaga, ?including Itpchu Argentina's corporate site, itochu.com.ar, and several other joint IT solutions,".
