Asia Global Crossing First to Obtain Concession License in Taiwan
📅 - Asia Global Crossing Taiwan (asiaglobalcrossing.com)announced yesterday that it has been awarded the Concession License forinternational submarine cable circuit leasing business by the Taiwan'sMinistry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), marking the first timeever such a license has been granted.
The license allows Asia Global Crossing to provide international bandwidthservices including international private line and indefeasible rights of usein Taiwan.
Asia Global Crossing Taiwan is a carrier neutral company and is now able toprovide capacity to end customers through the four Integrated fixed networkoperators in Taiwan. In line with Asia Global Crossing's strategy ofpartnering with local leading companies in each country its East AsiaCrossing system connects, Asia Global Crossing Taiwan is a 60:40 jointventure between Asia Global Crossing and Microelectronics Technology Inc(mti.com.tw).
East Asia Crossing already links Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan, and isscheduled to connect Korea in the third quarter this year, Singapore in thefourth quarter, Malaysia and the Philippines in the first quarter of 2002,and China as regulations permit. As East Asia Crossing is part of theworldwide Asia Global Crossing/Global Crossing Network, Taiwan is seamlesslyconnected to more than 200 major business centers in 27 countries. East AsiaCrossing has an initial speed of 80 gigabits per second and is upgradeableto 2.56 terabits.
"Within seven months after obtaining the first-ever permission to land inTaiwan, we landed East Asia Crossing and brought it into service. Thisbrings the first-ever competitive supply into Taiwan and quadruples itsexisting international capacity. Now, with the first-ever ConcessionLicense, we look forward to providing competitive international connectivityto the four fixed network operators," said John Legere, president and CEO ofAsia Global Crossing.
Asia Global Crossing Taiwan also manages the backhaul network from the EastAsia Crossing cable landing station into Taipei.
