Nov, 2001 : Sprint Opens Ninth Internet Center in Silicon Valley


📅 - Sprint Corp. (sprintesolutions.com) announced yesterday that it is expanding its services to the Silicon Valley area by opening a Sprint E|Solutions Internet Center, in Santa Clara, Calif.

The 160,000-square-foot Internet Center will be the ninth Sprint E|Solutionshas opened across the country. A formal grand opening event is scheduled forDec. 7, 2001.
The Silicon Valley Internet Center will offer Sprint's customers applicationand Web-hosting support, co-location, monitoring and performance reporting,and IT consulting services. Sprint E|Solutions also provides managedservices for customers, including business continuity planning, security,and mobile computing solutions.
"Meeting the demand for Tier-1 hosting services in the Silicon Valley areais key to the successful execution of our strategy," said Keith Paglusch,president of Sprint E|Solutions. "Sprint E|Solutions is witnessing adramatic upswing in customers who demand quality, security, scalability anda Tier-1 brand that stands for long-term survivability."
The Silicon Valley Internet Center sits directly on Sprint's high-speed,fiber-optic Tier 1 IP backbone. In addition, Sprint's support provides avariety of managed-server applications and transport services. The SiliconValley facility features a secure and reliable physical environment tosafeguard data. This newly constructed facility is custom-designed withraised floors, HVAC temperature-control systems and private, locked cabinetsand cages. In addition, the Internet Center offers a wide range of physicalsecurity features, including smoke detection and fire suppression systems,in-facility security personnel, and 24x7 secured access system, as well asvideo surveillance and security breach alarms.
Sprint has previously stated its plans to expand its Internet Centercapacity through year-end 2002. The Silicon Valley facility joins otheroperational Sprint E|Solutions Internet Centers in New York City, Boston,Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City, Denver, Reston, Va., and Sacramento, Calif. Anadditional center will soon open in Los Angeles. Currently, Sprint managesmore than 1.5 million square feet of hosting space.
