Feb, 2002 : Equinix Introduces Multi-Network Management Services

(equinix.com), a provider of Internet exchangeservices, announced details of the company's strategic focus to leverage itsmulti-network Internet hubs to extend the performance benefits and costefficiencies of Equinix's Internet exchange services to a broader customerbase. As a part of this initiative, the company announced three newmulti-network management services, Equinix Managed Router Service, EquinixIntelligent Routing Service and Equinix Command Center.

Equinix's strategy and services leverage the more than 75 networksparticipating in Equinix's Internet Business Exchange (IBX) centers tomaximize the performance, scalability, and cost benefits of networkdiversity for customers. The initiative is comprised of two targeted servicesets, multi-network management services and traffic exchange services.
With Equinix Managed Router Service, enterprises and content companies cangain the benefits of network diversity by outsourcing the technicalcomplexities of network integration, such as multi-homing, to Equinix. Thisservice allows companies that do not have the internal expertise toconfigure Border Gateway Protocol settings to focus on their corecompetencies while Equinix manages the connectivity to their choice ofnetworks. In addition, the service includes router management,administration and network service provisioning.
Equinix Intelligent Routing Service is based on realtime customer trafficacross the customer's choice of networks. This service leverages theaggregation of network service providers within IBX centers and consists ofa software and infrastructure platform that allows customers to tune theirnetworks to balance price and performance priorities by routing trafficacross the least priced path that meets performance requirements.
Via a managed software architecture, Equinix Command Center allows customersto self-monitor, manage and control applications, network devices, systemsresources and user transactions, providing customers with direct controlover infrastructure performance and service level agreements. The servicefeatures in-band and out-of-band network monitoring and management,aggregated information across multiple IBX centers, browser-based access todetailed monitoring and a single Equinix point of contact for support andbilling.
The second product segment in the network-centric services strategy focuseson providing high-performance and cost-effective peering, transit andtraffic exchange services for carriers, ISPs and large content providers andincludes Equinix Internet Core Exchange and Equinix GigE Exchange services.
As a part of the traffic exchange services segment, Equinix will expand theEquinix GigE Exchange, a service designed to facilitate ISP and contentpeering, to additional IBX centers in the first half of 2002. This service,deployed in 2001 and currently available in the Dallas, Washington, D.C. andSilicon Valley area IBX centers, is a bundled offering based on a gigabitethernet central switching fabric. The service allows ISP and contentprovider customers to establish a network or content presence within an IBXcenter to quickly facilitate enhanced performance while reducing costs. With34 network and content provider customers, traffic on the service grew anaverage of 200% monthly during the fourth quarter of 2001, the company said.
