Jun, 2002 : Verio Hosts GolfServ Network, Including Golf.com

📅 June 13, 2002 - Internet Protocol solutions provider, and subsidiary of NTT Communications corporation, Verio Inc. (Verio.com ) announced on Thursday that it will host the GolfServ network of 200 partner websites.

Verio says it expects traffic to the various GolfServ sites, including the recently relaunched Golf.com site, to boom during NBC Sports? coverage of the 2002 US Open golf tournament held June 13-16.
According to Verio, the company will support the GolfServ network, including sites like America Online, CNNSI.com and Travelocity.com, through its NTT/VERIO Enterprise Hosting services. The GolfServ sites will all feature professional tour coverage combined with GolfServ's interactive content and tools designed to help golfers manage their golf game, track online handicaps, search for courses worldwide and use other services.
Coverage of the 2002 US Open will include a virtual tour of the Bethpage State Park course, playing information and continuously posted leaderboard statistics.
"Visitors to our sites want to get information quickly as they track statistics on different tournaments, locations and players," says Michael Caspar, co-founder and chief technology officer of GolfServ. "Because of the wide range of content and services GolfServ provides, we needed a bulletproof solution to ensure that our sites delivered upon user demands."
Verio is providing an enterprise hosting solution designed to meet those demands. It includes fully managed Web, database and application servers, clustering, security features, load balancing, content distribution and backup services. Verio says its personnel worked closely with GolfServ's technology team to ensure the successful design, delivery and management of the project.
"Verio furnished the expertise and combination of technologies necessary to accommodate our business requirements and truly understood our business needs; we consider them an extension of our tech team," said Caspar. "By outsourcing this critical infrastructure and management component to Verio, we are able to concentrate on our core expertise--designing and managing the content and services we deliver to our 200 partner sites."
