Mar, 2003 : Vortech Defends Site Suspension Decision

📅 March 27, 2003 - Florida-based hosting company Vortech Inc. (VortechHosting.com -> hostinger.com) released a statement on Wednesday, defending the company's decision to temporarily suspend the operation of a Web site that the company says violated its rules regarding violent or graphic content.

Vortech sparked some debate on Monday when it suspended service for small independent news Web site YellowTimes.org, after the site posted controversial pictures of captured and deceased American soldiers in Iraq.
According to Vortech, the photographs were a clear violation of the company's "no adult content" policy which applies to all its hosting plans, and defines adult content to include "photos or videos showing graphic violence, death or dismemberment." Vortech says the YellowTimes.org site also lacked any visible means of preventing viewers under the age of 18 from seeing the material.
"We contacted YellowTimes.org and asked them to please remove the graphic material, as it was in violation of our Terms of Service," said the statement released by Vortech. "YellowTimes. org chose to ignore our request, therefore their account was suspended."
