Founded by Felix Preuss, Netcup was initially an independent company before merging into netcup GmbH in 2008. They are a green company powered by renewable energies. In 2016, they have become part of Anexia Group and they are also part of RIPE, DENIC or eco eV. They claim to use branded hardware and promise to solve network fails at any time in case they occur. Netcup website is available both in English and German.

The company specializes in the following products:
  • Shared Hosting;
  • Cloud Hosting;
  • Dedicated Servers;
  • Colocation;
  • Domain Registration;

Shared hosting plans are configured on SSD drives. It includes a great collection of features and tools (WordPress toolkit), although some features which other providers include in unlimited amounts, are limited here (i.e. mailboxes, domains, databases). Advanced-level plans are Ruby and NodeJS ready and all plans include free SSL via Let’s Encrypt as well as the possibility to install apps (online shops, blogs, forums).

Cloud servers are expendable as they can be scaled through a request any time. All cloud servers come on AMD EPYC 7702 processors and 2 x 10 Gbps uplink. These are configured on SSD RAID 1.

Dedicated servers run on Intel Xeon processors and 1 Gbit/s uplink. Powered by Dell, these servers are configured in PERC H730p 2 GB Cache / PERC H730P+ 2 GB Cache RAID.

😠 I evaluated their services for a few days before deciding to use OVH, as the network performance at Netcup was horrendously slow.

Since then, despite me requesting multiple times to cancel my account, they keep invoicing me and never acknowledge my cancellation request.

Frankly, it's crazy. I've never, EVER experienced something like this before.

I've reported them to the European Consumer Centre, as I can't imagine what they're doing is legal.
