I transferred my only website away from webfusion to the excellent www.webeden.co.uk, simply because webeden offer an excellent integral site builder, plus they would host it for just £24/year. Webfusion was £70/year to host my website. I had no animosity towards webfusion, just I found more what I wanted cheaper elsewhere.
I do have now however have issues with Webfusion. As I was too stupid and trusting (and frankly have too much of a life) not to go through all the small print, I fell foul of giving them 30 days notice to cancel my account. Also, most of us dont really have a clue with all this data jargon for unfathomable offerings, we just assume they'll act like other companies and do the right thing. Unfortunately you have to suspect everything because my experience is they clearly dont care about the customer.
So I was penalised another £70 webhosting I do not want nor will use for this year. There is of course no mention in the 'reminder' email a month before that if you dont give them notice pronto, you are made to pay for another year whether or not you use it. If they dont make that clear in their reminder, and they dont, then they should make that clear at the time of invoice, or at some time.
I dont mind paying for something I've already had use of, whether or not I've got around to using it. But to inflexibly make me pay another full years hosting I wouldnt use, just for the sake of 30 days seems wrong. Other companies at least have a buy out of the contract option for less than the annual fee. Or at least try to incentivise you to stay with them with an alternative offer. At least some sort of win/win offering.
I can accept this is partly my fault for putting off having to deal with their data jargon and unfathomable offerings, a bit like we put off a tax return. It's so unrewarding... but ok, I take some responsibility for the contract I accepted in naive good faith.
What really annoys me is that, seeing as I am being made to pay for my next year of hosting, they wont even let me use it for an alternative website name. So where's the point for me?
I started drafting a letter to their customer services, demanding they at least provide me useable hosting for an alternative website in exchange for my fee. But I dont want to operate with them again, particularly when there are cheaper and far superior options like webeden around. I was leaving them in the first place. Better to write off the fee and tell everyone webfusion dont deserve any new business until they substantially revise their policies.
It's as if I am a customer who has ammicably left the store, been locked in for leaving too late ...and then refused water or any comforts for the night. As a customer who would have considered their market offerings in future, I have now worked hard for a couple of hours posting this over the internet to explain to others why Webfusion is currently a very poor service provider and should be avoided:
Webfusion's service is completely inflexible if anything goes wrong. We want low prices, but not if it means having to laboriously treat the company with suspicion or getting screwed if we dont abide by their sneaky system in time.
