xel.nl is an established Dutch web-hosting and website-services provider based in Utrecht, Netherlands, operating through XEL Media B.V.. The company was founded in 1999 by Emrah Lacin, giving it more than a quarter-century of experience in the Dutch hosting market. Xel Holding B.V. has served as the general director of XEL Media B.V. since 2004. The business remains relatively compact, with an employee range of about 11–50 people, while serving more than 12,000 customers and approximately 28,000 hosted websites.

The portfolio is focused on managed website services rather than raw server infrastructure. It includes Shared Website Hosting, WordPress Hosting, Domain Registration and DNS, Website Builder / Website Service, WordPress security, email services bundled with hosting or domains, and managed solutions for agencies. VPS, dedicated-server and colocation plans are not part of the current retail range, making xel.nl a better fit for website owners, entrepreneurs and agencies that want the provider to handle much of the underlying hosting work.

The standard Website Hosting range consists of Lite Starter Hosting, Online Starter Hosting, Complete Starter Hosting and Professional Starter Hosting. The smallest package starts with 500 MB of webspace and 2 GB of monthly traffic, while the larger plans reach 50 GB of storage, fair-use data transfer and support for up to three websites. MySQL databases, email mailboxes and daily backups are included, with database and mailbox allowances increasing by tier. Professional Starter Hosting also includes free SSL. The environment supports PHP and MySQL together with FTP, encrypted SFTP and SSH/SCP access, while PHP versions can be selected individually for each domain through the xel management environment.

WordPress is one of the strongest parts of the service. The platform combines managed hosting resources, automated WordPress installation, migration assistance and a performance-oriented configuration designed specifically for WordPress. Under suitable conditions, the optimized environment can deliver performance gains of up to six times compared with ordinary hosting. WordPress customers can also obtain direct help with WordPress questions, while the knowledge base contains more than 70 WordPress-specific guides.

The WordPress Hosting range has four tiers: Intro, Start, Compleet and Groei. Intro includes 5 GB of storage, five email accounts, one snapshot, SSL and free migration. Start increases storage to 10 GB and includes ten email accounts, three snapshots, automatic updates, a staging/test environment and an eligible free domain. Compleet provides 50 GB of storage, twenty email accounts and five snapshots, while Groei expands to 100 GB, fifty mailboxes and eight snapshots. The upper two packages also include Veilig xel, the company’s extended WordPress security and maintenance service. Traffic is handled on a fair-use basis throughout the WordPress range.

Veilig xel is also available separately for EUR 14.50 per month. It combines a 64-point WordPress security approach with daily vulnerability and risk checks, a weekly full scan, automatic-update controls, rollback capability and two backups per day. Email protection includes DMARC and SPF management together with outgoing DKIM. Standard xel hosting already includes SSL, brute-force protection and DNSSEC, while Veilig xel adds a more active WordPress security, update and monitoring layer. A hacked WordPress site can also be cleaned through a one-time remediation service costing EUR 80.

For customers who prefer a website service rather than building and maintaining the site themselves, Zilch combines WordPress website creation, hosting and ongoing operational assistance for EUR 30 per month. The setup is guided and conversational rather than based on starting from an empty website builder. The service includes a customized business website, unlimited pages, hosting, email, a domain, backups, updates, onboarding and telephone guidance. Service pages, product pages, blog content and contact forms can be added. Zilch is not designed as a complete e-commerce platform, so more advanced checkout and webshop requirements need a different solution. FTP and SSH access are disabled on the managed Zilch website layer to keep the configuration controlled, while email and DNS remain manageable through the normal account environment.

The current standalone Zilch package costs EUR 30 per month. Some existing xel packages may have different legacy entitlements, so customers with older services should rely on the entitlement attached to their own account rather than assuming that standalone Zilch access is included without charge.

Domain Registration covers more than 100 extensions, with over 30,000 domains managed through the company. Basic domain service has no separate monthly service charge beyond the registration fee and includes redirects, DNS management and unlimited subdomains. Complete domain service costs EUR 1.49 per month on a 12-month basis and adds two mailboxes plus unlimited email addresses. This is useful for customers who prefer to keep domain registration, DNS and email under the same provider even when the website itself is hosted elsewhere.

Agencies can use the separate Bureau xel service, a tailored managed WordPress and hosting arrangement rather than a fixed resource plan. It can include a dedicated contact person, flexible billing to either the agency or end customer, direct support for agency customers, project backups, proactive monitoring, development/test/live workflows, WordPress maintenance, Elasticsearch implementation and team training. Pricing is customized according to the required service level and project scope.

The company is aimed primarily at the Netherlands and operates a Dutch-language storefront, documentation base and support environment. No complete multi-language/localized storefront exists. The website uses a modern, responsive design rather than an older fixed-width layout. Prices are shown in EUR. This makes xel.nl most natural for Dutch-speaking customers, although the underlying hosting and domain services are not technically limited to users in the Netherlands.
