SSL.com is a Houston-based Certificate Authority and digital trust company founded in 2002 by Leo Grove, who continues to serve as President and CEO. The business started as a certificate reseller and later built its own public CA infrastructure, issuing its self-signed root certificate in 2016. SSL.com became a full voting member of the CA/Browser Forum in 2017, received NAESB Authorized Certification Authority status in 2018, joined the Cloud Signature Consortium as an executive member in 2020, launched its eSigner cloud-signing platform in 2021, and joined the C2PA Trust List as a conformant CA in 2025.

The company serves customers in more than 180 countries and has developed well beyond the SSL/TLS certificate market suggested by its name. Its portfolio now covers TLS/SSL certificates, code signing, document signing, S/MIME email certificates, brand mark certificates, cloud signing, certificate automation, enterprise PKI, IoT and Matter authentication, content authenticity, timestamping and CDN services. SSL Corp is privately held, while LinkedIn places the organization in the 51–200 employee range. The company also became BBB Accredited on August 20, 2026, with an A rating.

Expansion has included acquisitions. SSL Corp acquired CDNify (cdnify.com) in June 2017, adding content-delivery technology to the business. In 2025, SSL.com acquired the digital certificate business of VikingCloud (vikingcloud.com), with affected certificate customers migrating to SSL.com's certificate-management environment.

SSL.com is not a conventional web hosting provider. It does not sell the usual shared hosting, reseller hosting, VPS or dedicated-server packages. Its services instead complement hosting infrastructure through certificates, PKI, certificate lifecycle automation, signing services and content delivery.

The main TLS/SSL Certificate range covers Single Domain, Wildcard and Multi-Domain UCC/SAN certificates, with DV, OV and EV validation depending on the product. Basic SSL is intended for straightforward HTTPS protection, while High Assurance and Premium options add organization validation and higher warranty levels. Multi-Domain certificates can cover as many as 500 SANs, while Wildcard certificates secure a domain together with its first-level subdomains. Enterprise EV certificates include extensive organization validation and a $1.75 million certificate warranty.

Certificate lifecycle automation has become considerably more important in 2026. SSL.com began issuing TLS certificates under the new 200-day maximum certificate lifetime in March 2026, with further reductions already planned by the certificate industry. Commercial subscriptions can still span longer periods, but new certificates need to be reissued during the subscription term. ACME RFC 8555 support therefore provides an important practical advantage, allowing compatible DV certificates to be issued and renewed automatically through standard ACME clients without artificial SSL.com ACME rate limits.

The accompanying SSL Manager is a free Windows application for ordering, installing and managing certificates and compatible FIPS hardware tokens. Larger organizations can integrate SSL.com with certificate lifecycle management systems, REST APIs and automated enrollment protocols.

The Code Signing portfolio includes Individual Validation, Organization Validation, Extended Validation and Sole Proprietor EV certificates. Modern code-signing requirements keep private keys in approved protected storage rather than allowing unrestricted export as conventional PFX files. SSL.com supports secure hardware tokens, compatible cloud HSM environments and its own eSigner cloud-signing service.

eSigner provides HSM-backed remote signing without requiring every developer to keep a USB token attached to a workstation. It is suitable for automated software-release workflows and CI/CD environments, with subscriptions based on signing volume and available credentials. A separate eSigner workflow is available for document signing.

Document Signing Certificates are available for individuals, organizations and combined individual-plus-organization identity verification. These certificates are useful for PDF and business-document workflows where the signer requires cryptographically verifiable identity rather than a basic electronic signature. eSigner for Documents moves the private-key operation into SSL.com's managed cloud-signing environment and provides browser-based document signing.

The Email & Brand Trust portfolio includes S/MIME certificates and several classes of brand certificates. S/MIME provides signed and encrypted email through Basic, IV, OV and Sponsor IV+OV options. Basic S/MIME verifies the email address, while higher levels add verified individual or organizational identity.

Verified Mark Certificates (VMC) support organizations using eligible registered trademarks together with BIMI and DMARC. Common Mark Certificates (CMC) provide an alternative for established logos that have been in use for at least 12 months without requiring the same registered-trademark basis. Government Mark Certificates (GMC) are available for qualifying governmental organizations.

SSL.com also operates in the growing Content Authenticity sector. C2PA Claim Signing Certificates allow compatible software, cameras, devices and publishing systems to attach cryptographically signed provenance information to images, video, audio and documents. CAWG certificates add verified individual or organizational attribution, while RFC 3161 trusted timestamping can preserve long-term verification of signed provenance data.

The C2PA service includes a particularly useful free tier, with one Level 1 Claim Signing Certificate valid for one year and 10,000 trusted timestamps per year for qualifying C2PA-conformant products. Premium deployments add larger certificate allocations, API issuance, stronger assurance levels, device certificates and enterprise support.

Machine and IoT identity are covered through Matter Device Attestation Certificates, Matter Product Attestation Intermediate certificates and Client Authentication Certificates. These products extend the SSL.com platform into manufacturing, mutual TLS, machine identity and authenticated device ecosystems.

The enterprise side of the business is centered on Trust Infrastructure and Private PKI. Private Compliance PKI supplies dedicated Root CA and Issuing CA infrastructure under audited controls, using FIPS 140-2 Level 3 HSMs and controlled key ceremonies. Private Enterprise PKI provides dedicated internal certificate infrastructure, while Managed PKI uses SSL.com's shared audited environment. Custom-Branded Issuing CA gives organizations an intermediate CA beneath SSL.com's publicly trusted root while placing the customer's organization identity in the issuer information.

Enterprise PKI supports REST API, ACME, SCEP and EST enrollment, certificate inventory management, expiration tracking, audit logging and automated certificate deployment. More advanced configurations also support hybrid post-quantum certificate profiles using technologies including ML-KEM, ML-DSA and SLH-DSA.

A separate Content Delivery Network provides global content delivery across the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. It includes REST API management, HTTP/2, real-time usage statistics and automatic SSL.com certificate installation for custom domains. This CDN service is the product most closely related to conventional hosting infrastructure.

The SSL.com website supports 30 languages, including English, Simplified Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, German, Arabic, Japanese, Italian, Korean, French, Dutch, Hebrew, Greek, Czech, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Irish, Hungarian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian Bokmål, Estonian, Russian, Bulgarian, Polish, Portuguese, Turkish and Urdu. English remains the primary version, while translated versions rely on automated Google translation. Retail pricing is primarily expressed in US dollars.
