rockenstein AG is a long-established German Internet and IT infrastructure provider headquartered in Veitshöchheim near Würzburg, Bavaria. The company was founded on March 23, 1992 by Christoph Rockenstein, with technical roots reaching back to 1987 and the creation of the "Happy Rocky Box" bulletin-board system. Internet connectivity followed in 1995, its first fiber connection arrived in 1997, RIPE membership followed in 1998, and the business became rockenstein AG in August 1999. It has been a DENIC member since November 2000. Christoph Rockenstein remains Chairman of the Management Board, while LinkedIn places the company in the 51–200 employee range.

Rockenstein operates considerably beyond conventional shared hosting. Its core business covers data centers and colocation, global networking, cloud infrastructure, hosting, email services and managed IT. The combination is particularly suitable for companies that prefer hosting, connectivity, networking and technical administration from the same German provider. The website is German-only; no multi-language/localized version exists.

For traditional website hosting, Managed Webhosting is available in Entry, Basic, Business, Premium and Premium-Contao variants. These packages run on shared web-server infrastructure in Rockenstein's German data centers. The more infrastructure-oriented option is VCloud, a private virtual infrastructure platform based on scalable resource pools and virtual servers rather than simple fixed-price VPS packages. Customers can create and manage virtual machines, generate snapshots and administer their environment through a Self-Service Portal. NVMe/full-flash storage, Layer-2 integration with company networks, Microsoft SPLA licensing and higher-grade data-center environments are available.

VCloud supports a broad selection of operating systems including Windows Server, Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Oracle Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and FreeBSD. CPU, RAM and storage resources can be adjusted as requirements change, making it useful for businesses that expect their infrastructure to grow over time. Automated VM backups are available according to the individual contract.

Physical hosting requirements are handled through Colocation, customized server environments and managed infrastructure rather than a conventional retail dedicated-server catalog. Colocation ranges from individual components and smaller rack allocations to complete 42U racks and dedicated server rooms. Layer-2 connectivity can integrate hosted equipment directly into a customer's existing corporate network.

Connectivity is one of Rockenstein's strongest areas. Services range from DSL and business fiber connections to dedicated metroLink and fibreConnect solutions with symmetrical bandwidth reaching multi-gigabit speeds. Static IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, BGP routing, VPN connections, Layer-2 and Layer-3 networking, point-to-point links, VPLS and MPLS can be incorporated into more complex installations.

Corporate sites can therefore be interconnected using dedicated infrastructure rather than relying solely on the public Internet. Redundant carrier paths and central Internet breakouts are possible, while security services include multi-stage firewalls, IDS/IPS, IPsec and SSL VPN, Layer-2 encryption, secure proxy systems and load balancing.

E-Mail Services cover conventional POP3 and IMAP mailboxes as well as dedicated or Hosted Microsoft Exchange environments. Spam filtering, multi-level malware filtering, customer-controlled blacklists and whitelists, newsletter infrastructure and long-term email archiving are available. A dedicated journal/archive mailbox can retain business correspondence immutably for ten years.

Normal email mailboxes should not be considered a user-restorable backup service. Internal snapshots and backups primarily protect the overall platform and facilitate system recovery. Businesses requiring long-term retention should therefore use the dedicated archiving solution.

IP Telephony extends the portfolio with virtual PBX and SIP trunking, including portability for telephone numbers and number blocks. Rockenstein also provides extensive IT Management and XaaS services covering server administration, remote hands, monitoring, operating-system updates, remote backup storage, firewalls, load balancing and individually defined service levels.

Web development, network-security consulting, business-continuity solutions and emergency workplaces further broaden the service range.
