📄 Editorial Review
Register.com was one of the long-established American web brands, with roots going back to 1994, and for many years they served small and medium-sized businesses that wanted domains, hosting, email, and website services from one familiar provider. The company had the profile of a mainstream business web-services brand rather than a specialist infrastructure host. Their strongest appeal was convenience: a customer could register a domain, launch a site, add business email, secure it with SSL, and even use website design or e-commerce tools without leaving the same ecosystem. The brand focused mainly on web hosting, website design, e-commerce hosting, SSL certificates, business email, and domain names. That made them more useful for traditional business websites than for advanced users looking for VPS, reseller hosting, or dedicated servers. The offer stayed centered on practical online presence tools instead of a deep technical server catalog.
Their shared hosting historically supported both Unix and Windows, which gave customers more flexibility than many basic hosting providers offered at the time. The plans generally included one free domain, email forwarding, webmail, spam and virus protection, FTP access, backup and restore tools, Perl support, CGI features, and basic website-building functions. Business email was another important part of the platform, with web and mobile access, calendar and contact integration, and the usual mailbox security features expected by smaller companies. The e-commerce side was also aimed at entry-level and mid-range business users, with free templates, customizable storefront design, mobile store support, and online catalog tools.
As an active standalone brand, Register.com had the feel of an older all-in-one business provider: recognizable, broad enough for small companies, and easy to understand, but not especially modern or infrastructure-heavy. That identity effectively ended in 2025. On July 26, 2025, Register.com was officially moved into Network Solutions, and by October 2025 the old brand was fully redirecting there. At that point, Register.com stopped mattering as a separate hosting company and became part of the larger Network Solutions platform.
