*📜 Plan description
RapidSSL DV is a Domain Validated TLS/SSL certificate intended to secure a single domain with symmetric 256-bit encryption and a $10,000 warranty. Domain Validation verifies control of the domain and does not require the deeper organization identity checks associated with OV or EV certificates. The certificate establishes an encrypted connection between a server and a client so information moving between a browser, server, or web application is protected while in transit. It is suitable for HTTPS on general websites, login areas, forms, and other services where encrypted communication and trusted browser recognition are required. RapidSSL certificates are designed for quick issuance through trusted resellers and are accepted by browsers across the web. RapidSSL does not publish a direct retail price for this certificate, so the final purchase price, tax treatment, billing details, and payment methods depend on the reseller used for issuance.
The underlying TLS/SSL model combines identity and encryption. The certificate subject identifies the protected domain, while cryptographic keys are used during the TLS handshake to establish a secure session between the client and server. After the connection is established, transmitted data is encrypted so private information cannot be read or altered in transit by an unauthorized party. HTTPS uses this TLS protection to replace an unsecured HTTP connection and avoid the browser warning associated with an unprotected site. RapidSSL operates as a long-established certificate brand with roots that undergo WebTrust auditing, and its certificates rely on trusted certificate-authority roots recognized by browsers. The current RapidSSL range remains deliberately simple: RapidSSL DV is the single-domain option, while RapidSSL Wildcard is the broader-coverage option. Higher warranty limits, advanced certificate lifecycle management through DigiCert CertCentral, discovery, monitoring, inspection, automated issuance, installation, renewal, vulnerability scanning, and the 24/7 English technical support package are associated with the GeoTrust upgrade path rather than the basic RapidSSL DV certificate. RapidSSL contact channels include regional phone numbers for the Americas, Europe/Middle East/Africa, and Asia Pacific/Japan, including a toll-free number for the United States and Canada.

📄 Editorial Review
RapidSSL is a long-established SSL/TLS certificate brand specializing in affordable and quickly issued Domain Validation (DV) certificates. It is not a conventional web hosting company and does not offer shared hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, colocation, domain registration, email hosting, cloud servers, or website-building products. Its business is concentrated on SSL/TLS certificates used to enable HTTPS encryption and trusted browser connections. The origins of RapidSSL go back to the FreeSSL operation of the early 2000s. Paul Tourret and Steven Waite joined FreeSSL in 2003 and were closely associated with the development of RapidSSL. The RapidSSL service was formally introduced on May 20, 2004, initially as a lower-cost SSL certificate option with automated issuance and simplified installation.
RapidSSL is now part of DigiCert. The present ownership followed DigiCert's acquisition of Symantec (symantec.com) Website Security and related PKI operations, completed on October 31, 2017. RapidSSL was among the SSL certificate brands transferred as part of that transaction. The certificate infrastructure was subsequently migrated from the former Symantec systems onto DigiCert's PKI platform.
RapidSSL maintains a deliberately compact certificate range centered on RapidSSL Standard DV, RapidSSL DV Wildcard SAN, and RapidSSL DV FQDN SAN. Standard DV is suitable for protecting an individual domain. The wildcard option is intended for websites and services that need coverage across multiple subdomains, while the FQDN SAN certificate can secure several fully qualified domain names within one certificate.
All RapidSSL products remain within the DV certificate category. Validation therefore concentrates on proving control of the requested domain rather than verifying the legal identity of an organization. Supported domain-control methods include validation through email, DNS records, and HTTP-based verification.
This approach makes RapidSSL practical for small business websites, personal sites, development projects, customer portals, web applications, and other services that primarily require encryption and browser trust without the more extensive validation process associated with OV or EV certificates.
RapidSSL certificates support 256-bit symmetric encryption, and the principal RapidSSL certificates include a $10,000 warranty. The certificate infrastructure is also subject to annual WebTrust audits for Certificate Authorities and operates from certificate roots trusted by mainstream browsers and operating systems.
Customers requiring stronger identity validation, higher warranties, more extensive lifecycle-management functions, or broader support options can move to GeoTrust, another DigiCert-owned certificate brand. GeoTrust provides higher warranty levels and broader certificate-management capabilities while remaining within the same DigiCert ecosystem.
An important change affecting certificates issued in 2026 is their shorter lifetime. Since February 24, 2026, newly issued public TLS certificates through DigiCert are limited to a maximum validity of 199 days. Annual TLS/SSL service periods can therefore require certificate reissuance before the service period itself expires. Certificate lifetimes are expected to become progressively shorter as industry requirements continue changing, making automated renewal increasingly useful.
RapidSSL.com operates primarily in English, while the CertCentral account environment supports English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Certificate purchases are commonly handled through international partners and resellers, so available currencies depend on the selected seller and account configuration.
