Profihost is a German managed hosting and e-commerce infrastructure specialist founded in 1998 by Stefan Priebe. From its base in Laatzen near Hanover, the company has developed from a traditional hosting provider into a business-oriented platform for professional websites, online shops, agencies, developers, and organizations that prefer managed infrastructure instead of maintaining servers themselves.

A significant corporate change took place in October 2020, when dogado acquired 100% of Profihost AG. The wider organization later became part of group.one (group.one), while Profihost continued as a dedicated hosting and e-commerce brand. The present legal entity is profihost GmbH, registered with the Amtsgericht Hannover under HRB 222926.

The portfolio extends well beyond ordinary shared hosting. It covers Managed Hosting, Managed FlexServers, Managed Clusters, Managed Cloud environments, Kubernetes, colocation, domains, DNS, SSL certificates, backups, CDN, VPN, DDoS and web application protection, Redis, Elasticsearch, PHP performance profiling, together with hosting optimized for Shopware, OXID, Magento, and Pimcore.

Managed Hosting is the entry-level option for smaller professional websites and online shops. The Managed eCommerce Hosting package includes 100 GB of storage, up to 50 databases, and up to 100 cronjobs. Resources operate within a managed cloud environment, while storage is maintained with threefold redundancy. Backup, security, and performance services can be added as projects become more demanding.

Managed FlexServer moves customers onto dedicated computing resources while retaining the managed administration model. These servers use AMD EPYC processing resources, DDR4 memory, SSD/NVMe storage, threefold redundant storage, and a traffic flat rate. CPU, memory, and storage capacity can be expanded as workloads increase. Profihost takes care of operating-system maintenance, security updates, monitoring, and the underlying infrastructure, while additional managed services can cover backup recovery, application monitoring, performance analysis, and emergency intervention.

For substantially larger shops and business-critical applications, Managed Cluster provides a multi-server architecture. Load balancers distribute traffic, while additional web servers and MySQL replicators can be incorporated according to application requirements. This approach is suitable when a single server would create either a performance limitation or an availability risk. Cluster environments are individually designed rather than sold as standardized retail packages.

Managed services are an important part of the business model. Daily Backup Basic stores backups on a physically separate backup system and retains them for seven days, with 200 GB included before additional capacity becomes necessary. Backup Restore adds assisted recovery. Website Monitoring can monitor up to ten URLs around the clock for both availability and loading performance, while Performance Profiling helps identify application, PHP, SQL, and server bottlenecks. Server Administration and 24/7 emergency assistance are also available for managed environments.

Domain registration is accompanied by centralized DNS administration. Customers can modify DNS records, configure redirects, and manage domains from the customer environment. Agencies and companies maintaining larger portfolios can use the Domain Robot, which is designed for centralized administration of multiple domain names.

Security services include SSL certificates, VPN access, backup systems, and Cybercrime Protection. The latter combines Layer 7 filtering for web applications with Layer 4 DDoS mitigation and is available in several traffic-oriented service levels. VPN connectivity can be deployed using OpenVPN or IPSec. Commercial SSL certificates are available with different validation levels, while Let's Encrypt integration is available through ServerCon for compatible configurations.

Performance services include Managed CDN, Redis caching, Elasticsearch, and Tideways PHP Profiling. The CDN infrastructure provides access to 119 worldwide points of presence and more than 200 Tbps of network capacity, with image optimization available as an additional service. Redis runs in a managed architecture with replication, failover capabilities, and threefold redundant storage. Elasticsearch adds scalable full-text search and indexing for applications that need more advanced search functions.

Managed Solutions are individually designed cloud environments for organizations whose applications no longer fit conventional server packages. Kubernetes ONE provides managed Kubernetes clusters that can be created and scaled through a central dashboard while Profihost handles the servers, networking, monitoring, platform maintenance, and upgrades.

Colocation is available for businesses that want to retain ownership of their physical hardware. Private racks and separated Private Suites are available within the group infrastructure in Oberhausen, together with 24/7 physical access, hands-on assistance, redundant infrastructure, and controlled physical security.

E-commerce remains the company's strongest specialization. Shopware Hosting combines managed server administration with infrastructure optimized for Shopware, including scalable RAM and NVMe-based storage. Profihost has worked with Shopware since 2008. Its relationship with OXID also dates from 2008, with dedicated hosting environments available for OXID eShop applications.

Magento Hosting uses an environment prepared for demanding Magento stores and supports components such as OpenSearch, RabbitMQ, Redis, Apache, and MariaDB. Pimcore Hosting provides a scalable platform for Pimcore projects, including Redis and proactive monitoring. Profihost has maintained a Pimcore partnership since 2020.

Professional shop migration is available for businesses moving existing e-commerce installations onto Profihost infrastructure. Migration scheduling can be coordinated to reduce service disruption. Companies requiring application development work can also be connected with suitable e-commerce agencies.

Profihost is clearly focused on professional and business customers rather than inexpensive personal hosting. The website, contractual documentation, customer interfaces, and primary support resources are German-language oriented. No multi-language/localized website version exists, making the service particularly focused on the German-speaking market.
