*📜 Plan description

Basic is the entry paid Site Plan for small blogs, static sites, and low-traffic production websites. It supports 25,000 monthly visits on monthly billing or 35,000 monthly visits on annual billing, plus 125,000 pages served on monthly billing or 175,000 pages served on annual billing. The plan includes 1 load balanced application container, a 256 MB application memory limit, 4 PHP workers, load balancing, high performance edge cache, manual backups, automated backups, immutable production code, and HTTPS coverage for up to 5 custom domains. Object Cache, Object Cache Pro for WordPress, Pantheon Search, and New Relic Performance Monitoring are not included on the production Basic plan. The lowest effective monthly price is $41.67 when paid annually at $500 per year; month-to-month billing is $55 per month. Basic has a 99.9% monthly availability SLO and is appropriate when the project needs a managed production workflow with limited traffic requirements.

Pantheon is a managed cloud platform for WordPress, Drupal, and Next.js projects. Production site plans use separate Dev, Staging, and Production environments, Git-based deployment workflow, built-in version control, CLI access through Terminus, logs, global CDN, caching, HTTPS, immutable production code, and the Pantheon Dashboard for day-to-day operations. Backups are built into the platform, with manual and automated backups on paid site plans, 1 or 6 months of backup retention, and 7 automated backups in the plan comparison. Sites can be launched in US, AU, CA, or EU regions; application containers, database containers, Redis cache, Solr search, distributed filesystem, request routing, backups, and clone jobs stay in the selected region. Billing for self-serve online purchases uses credit card payment. Support is available through dashboard chat, helpdesk ticketing, and phone for emergency assistance, with 24x7 access on higher workspace tiers. Traffic is counted through site visits and pages served rather than a conventional GB transfer allowance. Annual Performance and Elite plans include one month of overage protection for externally driven traffic spikes or a yearly peak event, with four months for qualified nonprofits. Paid site plans are required before connecting custom domains and taking a site live. Add-ons and professional services can add extra cost, and downgrades do not receive prorated refunds or credits.

📄 Editorial Review

Pantheon Systems, Inc. is a San Francisco-based WebOps and managed hosting platform focused on WordPress, Drupal, and Next.js websites. The company was founded in 2010 by Zack Rosen, David Strauss, Josh Koenig, and Matt Cheney, and it has grown into a mature SaaS/PaaS hosting provider for agencies, enterprises, universities, nonprofits, media brands, and organizations managing high-value website portfolios.

Pantheon is not a classic budget shared-hosting company and does not focus on commodity cPanel shared hosting, unmanaged VPS, dedicated servers, reseller hosting, domain bundles, or email hosting. Their strongest value is a specialized managed platform for teams that need reliable infrastructure, repeatable workflows, security, collaboration, staging environments, automated updates, and governance across one or many websites.

Their platform includes managed WordPress hosting, Drupal hosting, Next.js hosting, Serverless CMS, managed cloud hosting, Global CDN, Advanced CDN/WAF, Multizone Failover, Multidev environments, automated backups, integrated version control, deployment pipelines, New Relic-based performance monitoring, and command-line access through Terminus CLI. For technical teams, Pantheon works more like an integrated WebOps platform than a traditional hosting account.

Pantheon supports more than 700,000 websites and handles around 17 billion monthly page views, with customers ranging from large commercial brands to public-sector, education, nonprofit, and agency environments. In 2021, Pantheon raised a $100 million Series E round funded by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 at a valuation above $1 billion, making it one of the better-capitalized specialist platforms in the managed WordPress and Drupal hosting market.

For WordPress and Drupal, Pantheon is especially strong where teams need Dev / Test / Live workflows, Git-based deployments, automated backups, scalable containers, CDN delivery, security controls, and repeatable processes across multiple sites. For Next.js, the platform supports decoupled and full-stack builds, GitHub-based workflows, server-side rendering, static generation, and runtime delivery powered by Google Cloud Run.

Pantheon is best understood as managed application hosting for serious web teams, not as entry-level hosting for users who only need a cheap website, mailbox, and domain name in one control panel.
