📄 Editorial Review

Nexcess.net is now an inactive legacy hosting brand, with the domain redirected to Liquid Web. The original Nexcess business was not closed in the usual sense, but absorbed into Liquid Web’s managed hosting platform. The transition began when Nexcess and Liquid Web joined forces in September 2019, continued with the unified Liquid Web brand move in 2024, and by 2025 the old Nexcess.net identity had effectively disappeared from public hosting sales.

Nexcess was founded in 2000 by Chris Wells in Michigan, USA. The company started as a specialized managed hosting provider and became known especially for application-focused hosting rather than generic budget hosting. Its strongest reputation was built around Magento, WordPress, WooCommerce, and other demanding PHP-based applications. Before becoming part of Liquid Web, Nexcess grew into a recognized managed hosting company with more than 100 employees and a global infrastructure footprint.

The older Nexcess portfolio included Shared Hosting, Cloud Hosting, Dedicated Servers, Domain Registration, SSL Certificates, CDN, and Colocation Hosting. Shared hosting was suitable for smaller business websites and included email features, secondary domains, dedicated IP options, FTP access, databases, and visitor-based plan limits. The company’s real strength, however, was managed cloud and ecommerce hosting, especially for businesses needing performance, PCI-ready infrastructure, staging, monitoring, migrations, backups, and expert technical support.

Cloud hosting was designed for high-traffic ecommerce websites, agencies, developers, and small to mid-sized businesses that needed more reliability than standard shared hosting. The managed cloud environments included flexible scaling, server monitoring, security tools, and platform-specific optimizations. Dedicated servers were available in unmanaged and fully managed formats, giving technical users more control while also serving businesses that preferred enterprise-level server management.

After the brand consolidation, the old Nexcess managed hosting services continued under Liquid Web. The Nexcess name later returned in 2026 through nexcess.com, but that newer identity is connected to a specialty cloud direction that combines Liquid Web managed expertise with Servers.com bare-metal infrastructure. This is different from the inactive nexcess.net hosting brand, which now belongs to the Liquid Web migration history.
