📜 Plan description

Rent one or more dedicated servers including management from netcup. The netcup SCP package developed in-house by netcup can be used to combine the servers into a cluster. The cluster's resources can then be shared out over any number of virtual systems.

📄 Editorial Review

netcup is a German hosting and infrastructure provider whose history began in 2002, when Felix Preuss started the business as a one-person operation. The company became netcup GmbH in 2008 and has belonged to the Anexia group since 2016. Alexander Windbichler and Oliver Werner manage the company today. From its early hosting roots, netcup has grown to around 400 employees, more than 200,000 customers, over 500,000 hosting products, and approximately 400,000 managed domains.

Headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany, netcup has developed into a broad hosting and cloud infrastructure provider rather than remaining focused on conventional shared hosting. Its portfolio includes Webhosting, Reseller Webhosting, VPS Lite, x86 VPS, ARM64 VPS, Root Servers, vGPU servers, Local Block Storage, Managed Private Servers, Managed Cloud Cluster, domain registration and transfers, domain reseller services, SOGo Groupware, DNS, SSL certificates, email hosting and Plesk licenses.

The company participates in organizations including RIPE and DENIC and operates under a mature compliance framework. Certifications include ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and ISO 14001, covering quality management, information security, privacy management and environmental management. Renewable electricity is used wherever technically possible, an important consideration for European customers looking for infrastructure with stronger environmental and regulatory credentials.

The regular Webhosting range is cloud-based and covers everything from relatively small websites to larger application projects. Webhosting 1000 includes 50 GB SSD storage, SSH access, email hosting, databases, SSL certificates and an included domain. Webhosting 2000 raises storage to 150 GB and introduces additional WordPress tooling, while Webhosting 4000 and Webhosting 8000 increase storage to 500 GB and 1,000 GB respectively. The larger packages are more suitable for development workloads because they support technologies such as Python, Ruby and Node.js in addition to PHP.

Email functionality is integrated directly into the hosting platform. Customers can create mailboxes, aliases, forwarding rules and catch-all addresses and can access their accounts through webmail or conventional email applications. SPF and DKIM are supported, helping reduce spoofing and improve email deliverability. Let's Encrypt certificates are included for hosted domains and subdomains, while separate commercial SSL certificates are also available.

SSH and SFTP access make the hosting accounts noticeably more useful for developers than simplistic website-builder hosting. External domains can be connected without transferring the registration to netcup, and applications such as WordPress can be deployed using the included hosting tools.

Reseller Webhosting is intended for agencies, designers and hosting companies that want to create separate hosting accounts for their own customers. The service uses a white-label Plesk environment and scales from smaller configurations with five customer accounts and 50 GB SSD storage to packages supporting 100 accounts and up to 1 TB SSD. SSL certificates are included, and the larger reseller plans support Python, Ruby and Node.js. Domain reselling can be added through netcup's separate domain reseller program.

The virtual-server portfolio is one of the company's strongest areas. VPS Lite provides low-cost KVM virtual machines for basic web services, testing, VPNs, small applications and lightweight server workloads. Entry configurations begin with very modest resources such as 1 vCore, 1 GB RAM and 30 GB SSD, while larger G12s Lite servers scale to 16 vCores, 32 GB RAM and 640 GB SSD. They include snapshots, remote-console access and traffic allowances, while compatible G12s Lite systems can also use additional Local Block Storage.

The standard x86 VPS G12 range uses NVMe storage and considerably larger resource allocations. VPS 500 G12 begins with 2 vCores, 4 GB DDR5 ECC RAM and 128 GB NVMe storage, while the upper VPS 8000 G12 reaches 16 vCores, 64 GB RAM and 2 TB NVMe. Hourly billing is available for selected VPS plans, which is useful for development, temporary workloads, testing environments and services that do not need to remain online for an entire billing period.

VPS CPU resources are shared with other virtual machines on the host system. Customers requiring more predictable CPU performance can instead choose the Root Server G12 range, where CPU resources are dedicated.

ARM64 VPS provides another alternative based on Ampere Altra Max processors. These servers work particularly well for Linux applications, containers, web servers and other software already compiled for ARM64. They can be an efficient option for users who do not depend on x86-only software. Windows and applications requiring conventional x86 processors are not suitable for this range.

The Root Server G12 product line is particularly attractive for performance-sensitive workloads. These are KVM virtual servers rather than physical bare-metal machines, but CPU cores are dedicated instead of shared. The latest generation uses AMD EPYC 9645 processors, DDR5 ECC memory and NVMe storage. A typical RS 1000 G12 configuration includes 4 dedicated cores, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB NVMe, while larger configurations reach 16 dedicated cores, 64 GB RAM and 2 TB NVMe.

Root Servers include snapshots, a remote console, IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity, DDoS protection and network interfaces reaching up to 2.5 Gbps depending on the package. They also receive a 99.9% minimum availability guarantee and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, giving this product line stronger service commitments than standard VPS.

The vGPU platform brings GPU computing into the portfolio using NVIDIA H200 hardware combined with AMD EPYC 9535 processors. These systems are aimed at artificial intelligence, machine learning, inference, HPC and other workloads requiring dedicated GPU compute and memory resources. H200 vGPU capacity is currently highly constrained, and configurations were sold out during the latest availability check.

Local Block Storage allows compatible virtual servers to expand beyond their included system disk without upgrading the entire VPS or Root Server. Capacity can be allocated in small increments and scaled into multiple terabytes depending on the server type. It is particularly useful for databases, archives, application data and projects that need additional disk capacity but not additional CPU or RAM.

For customers who do not want to administer an operating system themselves, Managed Private Servers provide managed virtual infrastructure based on AMD EPYC 9645 processors, DDR5 ECC memory and NVMe storage. netcup handles operating-system administration and important server services, while customers work in a more restricted environment without unrestricted root or sudo access. Packages scale from 16 GB RAM and 512 GB NVMe to considerably larger configurations with 64 GB RAM and 2 TB NVMe.

At the business end of the portfolio, Managed Cloud Cluster provides much larger physical infrastructure for companies requiring private managed environments. G12 configurations use AMD EPYC 9645 processors, substantial amounts of RAM, enterprise SSD/NVMe storage, RAID and dual high-speed network connectivity. Resources can be distributed among multiple virtual systems while the underlying infrastructure remains professionally managed.

Domain registration is another significant part of netcup's business. More than 450 TLDs are supported, and the company maintains direct relationships or accreditations with important registries including DENIC, nic.at, EURid and SWITCH. Domain registration, transfers, DNS administration and DNSSEC can all be handled through the customer account.

The separate Domain Reseller Program is designed for customers managing larger domain portfolios or selling domains to their own clients. Several reseller levels are available, making the service useful for web agencies and hosting businesses alongside the Reseller Webhosting range.

SOGo Groupware expands the email offering with calendars, address books, shared mailboxes and other collaboration functions. It can be used through a browser as well as with Outlook, Thunderbird, Android and iOS clients. Data is stored redundantly, making it suitable for both individual and business collaboration requirements.

The website and customer environment support German and English. Customers can select their billing country so that VAT is calculated according to the relevant location. Products remain priced in EUR, including for customers outside Germany.

Overall, netcup covers an unusually broad range of hosting requirements. Small websites can remain on inexpensive Webhosting, developers can use VPS or ARM servers, demanding projects can move to dedicated-resource Root Servers, and organizations wanting administrative assistance can move into Managed Private Servers or Managed Cloud Cluster infrastructure without leaving the same provider.
