Managed.com was an American managed hosting and infrastructure provider with roots going back to 2001, when Tony Valenti founded the business with a strong specialization in DotNetNuke, later known as DNN. The company originally became well known through the PowerDNN brand and built much of its early reputation around managed Windows hosting, Microsoft server technologies and unusually deep knowledge of the DNN ecosystem.

The Managed.com name was introduced in 2014 as the business expanded beyond DNN into a broader managed-hosting operation. By that stage, the company was serving organizations that needed more than ordinary shared hosting, particularly customers running business-critical CMS platforms, Windows applications and customized server environments.

The business grew from its Nebraska origins into an international hosting operation. Around the time of its first major ownership change in 2015, Managed.com had approximately 36 employees and offices on three continents. Later corporate profiles generally placed the workforce in the 11–50 employee range.

Ownership changed several times during the company's history. SY Holdings LLC acquired Managed.com on February 20, 2015, in a transaction valued at approximately $7.827 million. In December 2017, Deluxe Corporation acquired selected assets of SY Holdings operating as Managed.com and incorporated the hosting business into its larger portfolio of web and business services.

The final major transition occurred in 2023. HostPapa agreed to acquire Deluxe's web-hosting and logo-design operations at the beginning of that year and completed the transaction on June 29, 2023. Managed.com was included among the hosting businesses transferred to HostPapa. The overall transaction carried a $42 million base purchase price, although that amount applied to the broader Deluxe hosting operation rather than Managed.com individually.

After that transaction, Managed.com operated as Managed.com, a HostPapa company rather than as an independent hosting provider. Its legacy infrastructure and customers became part of the larger HostPapa organization, and Managed.com effectively ceased to exist as a standalone hosting company on June 29, 2023.

Managed.com's strongest specialty was always managed application hosting. DNN remained one of its core platforms, but the company expanded into WordPress, Drupal, elcomCMS, nopCommerce and Kentico, among other CMS and application environments. This was considerably more specialized than ordinary shared hosting because the support team was expected to understand the application stack itself instead of dealing only with the underlying server.

Over time, the portfolio expanded to include Windows Shared Hosting, Linux Shared Hosting, Managed VPS, unmanaged VPS, Cloud Hosting, Dedicated Servers, Colocation, Domains, SSL Certificates, email hosting, spam filtering, backup and disaster recovery, monitoring, firewall management, DDoS protection, BGP networking and migration services.

Shared hosting was available for both Windows and Linux environments. Entry packages included around 10 GB of storage, one website, 50 mailboxes, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited FTP users, while larger plans increased storage capacity and the number of hosted websites. Windows hosting was particularly important because of the company's long association with IIS, ASP.NET and DNN.

Managed VPS was one of the better-known parts of the older product range. Traditional configurations used Windows or CentOS/Linux, SAN-based storage and Plesk management. These services were aimed at customers who wanted isolated server resources without having to manage every operating-system and infrastructure task themselves.

Later VPS offerings became much broader, particularly after the company was incorporated into the HostPapa group. Less expensive unmanaged VPS instances appeared alongside fully managed cPanel/WHM environments, creating a wider gap between basic infrastructure and the company's traditional premium managed service.

Cloud Hosting covered managed Windows and Linux environments designed for larger websites, CMS deployments and business applications. These systems offered considerably more resources than standard VPS packages, with configurations starting around four CPU cores and 8 GB RAM and scaling upward for larger workloads. DNN, WordPress, Drupal, nopCommerce and similar applications could all be deployed in these managed environments.

The Dedicated Server range included Intel Xeon, AMD Ryzen and AMD EPYC hardware, with both managed and unmanaged options. Storage configurations included SSD and NVMe, while network ports varied from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps depending on the server and facility. During the HostPapa period, parts of the dedicated-server and datacenter infrastructure were closely integrated with ColoCrossing, another infrastructure business transferred in the Deluxe transaction.

Colocation was also available for customers who wanted to place their own hardware within managed datacenter facilities. Options ranged from single 1U systems to half cabinets, full cabinets and larger private cages. Remote-hands assistance, managed networking, BGP, monitoring and DDoS mitigation were available for more complex deployments.

Backup and disaster recovery were important elements of the managed offering. Services included off-site replication, real-time replication, customized disaster-recovery planning and rapid restoration options. Monitoring covered CPU, memory, disk usage and network availability, while fully managed environments also benefited from operating-system maintenance and security assistance.

Customer satisfaction was one of Managed.com's strongest historical achievements. In 2015, the company recorded a 90.8 Net Promoter Score, far above the web-hosting industry benchmark of roughly 43 at the time. That result matched the company's long-standing strategy of competing through knowledgeable support rather than simply offering the lowest monthly price.

The most serious incident in Managed.com's history occurred in November 2020, when the infrastructure was affected by a REvil ransomware attack. Managed.com disconnected large parts of its hosting environment to contain the incident, causing interruptions to websites, email, DNS, FTP, databases and managed DNN and WordPress services. Some customers experienced lengthy outages while systems were restored. This became the company's most significant security and availability failure and remains an important part of its history.
