*📜 Plan description

Configuration summary
- Estimated starting price: $0.8/hour (about $576/month based on 720 hours)
- Compute: 32 cores
- Memory: 256 GB RAM
- Storage: 2400 GB SSD

Single-tenant edge bare metal infrastructure intended for latency-sensitive applications, data processing close to users, and environments that benefit from dedicated hardware without multi-tenant contention.
- Latency and reach: <=5ms of latency design target, intended to cover up to 97% of U.S. business demand
- Footprint: 60+ edge market nodes
- Provisioning speed: <=1 hour spin up of bare metal servers
- Security posture: user-defined firewall policies, encryption, and access controls for secure deployments; isolated environment as opposed to multi-tenancy
- Operating system flexibility: select the OS that works best or bring your own OS; supports multiple operating systems
- Self-service capabilities: ordering and lifecycle actions through an intuitive dashboard; dedicated servers can be provisioned via a control portal or API calls
- Governance: creation of Admin, Tenant, and User-based roles to separate duties and manage access
- Configuration flexibility: flexible server and storage configurations with additional options available; includes software installation and hyper-threading management features
- Consumption model: choose monthly or pay-as-you-go billing; resources are charged hourly even when servers are powered off
- Pricing notes: published rates are estimates for qualifying customers and eligible United States data centers; monthly estimates are based on 720 hours and are not a guarantee of actual charges
- Exclusions and variables: estimates do not include taxes, connectivity, bandwidth, operating system/software licensing costs, or other applicable charges; not all configurations are available in all data centers
This service is designed to help teams stand up dedicated compute at edge locations while keeping operational effort low through self-service tooling and automation-friendly APIs.

Lumen Edge Bare Metal provides single-tenant infrastructure at the edge with self-service provisioning through a control portal or APIs, enabling low-latency processing and predictable pricing with pay-as-you-go or monthly consumption models.

📄 Editorial Review

Lumen Technologies is a major American telecommunications, network infrastructure, cloud, and managed services company headquartered in Monroe, Louisiana. Its history began in 1930, when William Clarke and Marie Williams acquired the Oak Ridge Telephone Company in Louisiana. The business later operated as Century Telephone, CenturyTel, and CenturyLink before adopting the Lumen Technologies name in 2020.

The acquisition of Level 3 Communications in November 2017 played an important role in shaping the present company. The transaction combined CenturyLink’s telecommunications and enterprise operations with Level 3’s international fiber backbone, Internet routing network, data centers, and large corporate customer base. Lumen later sold its EMEA business to Colt for approximately $1.8 billion in November 2023. A further $5.75 billion consumer fiber divestiture was completed in February 2026, leaving Lumen more concentrated on enterprise networking, managed infrastructure, cloud connectivity, security, and AI-related workloads.

Lumen is not a traditional shared web hosting company. It does not concentrate on inexpensive Linux hosting accounts, reseller hosting, entry-level WordPress packages, website builders, or cPanel plans for personal websites. Its infrastructure services are intended mainly for enterprises, government organizations, software platforms, financial institutions, content providers, and companies operating complex or geographically distributed applications.

Its main hosting-related services include Colocation, Edge Bare Metal, Edge Private Cloud, Managed Hosting, and Lumen Network Storage.

Colocation is available through individual cabinets, secured cages, private suites, cross-connects, and high-density power configurations. Customers can connect their equipment directly to Lumen Internet access, private networks, cloud platforms, managed security services, and disaster-recovery infrastructure. Optional Hands & Eyes support covers physical tasks such as equipment inspection, cable installation, hardware replacement, and basic onsite troubleshooting.

Edge Bare Metal provides dedicated single-tenant physical servers without sharing the underlying hardware with another customer. Servers can be provisioned in approximately one hour at supported locations. Customers can select operating systems, use APIs for automation, apply their own security policies, configure access permissions, and connect the servers directly to Lumen networking services.

The bare-metal platform covers more than 60 edge market nodes and places computing resources within approximately five milliseconds of as much as 97% of U.S. business demand. This architecture is well suited to latency-sensitive databases, media delivery, industrial systems, AI inference, gaming platforms, analytics, and applications that cannot operate efficiently from a distant centralized cloud region.

Edge Private Cloud is a fully managed private cloud built around hyperconverged infrastructure and VMware Cloud Foundation technologies. It can be installed in a Lumen hosting facility, inside a customer’s colocation area, at an eligible third-party data center, or directly on the customer’s premises.

Standard private-cloud configurations begin with 32 processing cores, 384 GB RAM, and 5 TB of usable SSD capacity. Larger configurations can reach 1.5 TB RAM and approximately 35 TB of usable SSD storage. Customers retain familiar VMware administration tools, while Lumen handles the hardware, software-defined data center, network integration, platform lifecycle, and underlying operational management.

Microsegmentation, disaster recovery, workload migration, and hybrid-cloud connectivity are available for organizations requiring dedicated infrastructure without maintaining the entire hardware and virtualization stack internally.

Managed Hosting combines dedicated infrastructure with equipment installation, operating-system configuration, bandwidth, monitoring, security, alerting, and onsite technical assistance. Monitoring can cover physical servers, routers, switches, websites, operating systems, applications, and databases. Customers can also receive service runbooks, trend analysis, engineering assistance, and a dedicated service-management contact.

Lumen Network Storage provides distributed block, file, and object storage close to applications and edge workloads. The platform includes snapshots, replication, automated storage tiering, performance objectives, and usage-based capacity. Object storage includes network egress without a separate egress charge, which can reduce costs for applications that regularly transfer large volumes of data.

The wider service portfolio includes Dedicated Internet Access, IP transit, wavelengths, dark fiber, Ethernet, SD-WAN, private IP networking, cloud interconnection, Network-as-a-Service, DDoS protection, managed firewalls, web application firewall services, threat intelligence, backup, cyber-resiliency services, and disaster recovery.

This combination allows organizations to purchase hosting infrastructure, storage, security, and network connectivity through a single enterprise provider rather than coordinating several unrelated vendors.

The main website is available in English, with regional sections for the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, and Singapore. Online rates are primarily expressed in U.S. dollars, while international enterprise agreements can use contract-specific currencies and billing arrangements. The website uses a modern responsive layout and provides access to product information, technical documentation, legal conditions, network maps, service portals, and support resources.
