📄 Editorial Review

Keyweb AG is a German web hosting, server, cloud and data-center company founded in 1997 by Frank Nowag. The business originally operated as Keyma GmbH, adopted the Keyweb name in 2001 and became Keyweb AG in 2002. Frank Nowag continues to serve on the Executive Board, while Holger Amberg leads the technical organization. The company has approximately 11–50 employees.

Keyweb developed around infrastructure ownership and direct server administration rather than mass-market shared hosting alone. Its servers were moved from the United States to Frankfurt in 2000, production of its own Keymachine server systems began in 2001, and the first company-owned data center opened in Erfurt in 2004. A second Erfurt data center followed in 2007.

Server manufacturing was transferred to Keymachine Server Manufaktur GmbH in 2013. This relationship gives Keyweb greater control over server configuration, hardware assembly, component selection and maintenance than providers relying entirely on standardized third-party platforms.

TEAG Thüringer Energie AG acquired a minority interest in Keyweb in 2021 and became the majority shareholder in 2025. Frank Nowag remained involved in the company’s management following the transaction. The partnership strengthened Keyweb’s regional infrastructure position and added access to the Netkom data center in Ilmenau.

The service portfolio covers shared web hosting, CMS hosting, ecommerce hosting, virtual private servers, dedicated-resource VPS, dedicated servers, custom hardware, Mac servers, GPU servers, private cloud, Nextcloud, backup storage, Proxmox backup infrastructure, colocation, managed hosting, domains, SSL certificates, penetration testing, video-conferencing infrastructure and business collaboration systems.

Web Hosting packages combine SSD storage, email hosting, MySQL databases, FTP access, domains and KeyHelp Pro. Storage capacities range from 20 GB to 500 GB, depending on the package. A .EU domain is included, while larger plans support additional domains, databases and mailboxes.

CMS Hosting supports applications such as WordPress, TYPO3, Joomla, Drupal, Contao and Moodle. Shop Hosting provides resources for Shopware, Magento and osCommerce. These packages include dedicated resources, SSL protection, domain registration and server configurations adapted to content-management or ecommerce workloads.

Online Seminar Hosting uses BigBlueButton and Greenlight for virtual meetings, training sessions and online classrooms. The standard configurations accommodate approximately 50 to 500 simultaneous participants.

The virtual-server range begins with KVM-based Root vServers. These systems include full administrative access, SSD storage, traffic, Managed Support and KeyHelp Pro. The entry VS S configuration provides 3 vCores, 4 GB RAM and 150 GB SSD storage.

Customers needing consistently reserved resources can use Dedicated VPS packages with exclusively allocated processing power, memory and storage. SSD and NVMe configurations are offered for workloads requiring stronger disk performance.

Dedicated hardware is divided between Keymachine and Keymachine Pro. Standard Keymachine servers use Intel processors and work well for websites, business applications, development environments and general server workloads. Keymachine Pro configurations use AMD EPYC processors, ECC memory and more extensive storage options for virtualization, databases and demanding enterprise systems.

Dedicated servers include full root access, KeyHelp Pro, Managed Support and a five-year full-service hardware warranty. Custom configurations can be built with different processors, RAM capacities, RAID controllers, SSD or NVMe storage, network interfaces and management arrangements.

Mac Server Hosting provides remotely accessible Apple hardware for macOS applications, software development, testing and workflows that depend on Apple operating systems.

The GPU Server range supports artificial intelligence, machine learning, inference, graphics processing and computational workloads. Standard systems use hardware such as NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti or Tesla L4 GPUs. Larger custom installations can combine several professional GPUs with extensive DDR5 memory and NVMe storage.

Keyweb has also expanded into locally operated language-model infrastructure and data-sovereign artificial intelligence systems. These configurations are relevant to organizations that cannot move confidential information to a conventional public AI platform.

The Keyweb Private Cloud uses dedicated Proxmox clusters rather than computing resources shared with unrelated customers. Standard private-cloud systems combine three physical servers, dedicated computing resources, SSD or NVMe storage, root access, KeyHelp Pro and Managed Support. They can host virtual machines, containers, internal applications and hybrid-cloud environments.

KeyCloud is a managed Nextcloud service for file storage, synchronization and collaboration. It includes unlimited user accounts, SSL encryption, calendars, contacts, file sharing and communication tools. Storage packages range from 200 GB to 5 TB.

KeyDisc Pro provides external backup capacity from 200 GB to 30 TB. Additional backup services include storage and dedicated infrastructure for Proxmox Backup Server environments.

Agencies, resellers and business customers can combine hosting accounts, virtual servers, dedicated systems, private clouds and white-label administration. Additional technical services include migration assistance, individualized backup strategies, managed infrastructure, remote hands, security testing, colocation space and complete rack installations.

New customers can receive migration assistance when transferring websites, server data or applications from another provider. This is especially useful for organizations moving complex systems that cannot tolerate a prolonged interruption.

The company operates in German and English, and product prices are denominated in euros. The current presentation is modern, responsive and practical on both desktop and mobile devices.
