IONOS is one of Europe’s largest web hosting, domain registration, business application, and cloud infrastructure providers. Its history began in 1988, when Ralph Dommermuth founded 1&1 in Montabaur, Germany. The hosting business entered France in 2000, giving IONOS a long-established presence in the French market.

The company expanded through several important acquisitions and integrations. These included Fasthosts in 2006, united-domains in 2008, Arsys in 2013, home.pl in 2015, STRATO and enterprise cloud specialist ProfitBricks in 2017, World4You in 2018, and we22 in 2021. The combination of the 1&1 hosting operation with ProfitBricks created the foundation for the present IONOS brand and its enterprise cloud platform. IONOS completed its stock-market listing in 2023 and remains part of the wider United Internet business group.

Achim Weiß, who originally co-founded Schlund + Partner, serves as CEO. In May 2026, IONOS Group had 6.81 million customers, following an increase of approximately 180,000 during the first quarter of the year. IONOS France is much more than an inexpensive shared hosting provider. A professional design service is also available for companies that prefer IONOS specialists to build and maintain their websites.

The online store packages support physical and digital products, mobile management, integrated payment and shipping options, social selling, advertising tools, appointment booking, marketplace connections, and B2B features. Entry packages are suitable for smaller catalogs, while the Expert package supports unlimited products and wider marketplace integration. WooCommerce and PrestaShop hosting provide more flexibility for businesses that prefer established open-source ecommerce platforms.

Email services include basic custom-domain mailboxes, Mail Business, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, email marketing, email archiving, and collaboration tools. The email infrastructure uses geo-redundant European facilities, SSL/TLS transport encryption, antispam protection, and optional antivirus filtering.

Cloud infrastructure can be provisioned through an API or through the graphical Data Center Designer. Per-minute billing and maximum monthly price caps make the platform suitable for both temporary workloads and continuously running production systems.

The French website is fully localized in French and uses EUR. Prices are commonly displayed before tax as HT and with French VAT as TTC. The interface is modern, responsive, and suitable for mobile devices, although the large number of products and promotional combinations can make direct comparisons more complicated than with a smaller specialist provider.
