Hostwinds is a US web hosting and infrastructure provider founded in 2010. The company began in Tulsa, Oklahoma and later established its headquarters near Seattle, Washington. Peter Holden founded Hostwinds and led its development from a conventional hosting business into a provider covering shared hosting, virtual servers, cloud infrastructure, dedicated hardware and colocation.

A major corporate change took place on April 29, 2026, when HostPapa acquired Hostwinds LLC. Hostwinds continues to operate under its established brand, while the legal business now forms part of HostPapa Inc.

The service range is unusually broad and includes Shared Hosting, Business Hosting, Reseller Hosting, White Label Reseller Hosting, managed and unmanaged Linux VPS, managed and unmanaged Windows VPS, Cloud Servers, Dedicated Servers, Load Balancers, Block Storage, Object Storage, Colocation, domain registration and SSL certificates. This gives customers a practical migration path from a basic website account to VPS, cloud or physical server infrastructure without having to move to another hosting company.

Shared Hosting is divided into Basic, Advanced and Ultimate plans. Basic supports one domain, Advanced supports four domains and Ultimate allows unlimited domains. Accounts use SSD storage and include unlimited bandwidth and disk space under the acceptable-use rules, a dedicated IP address, free SSL, cPanel, Softaculous, databases, FTP accounts, email and the Weebly website builder. Free website migration and managed assistance are also included.

The unlimited disk and bandwidth allowances are intended for normal website content rather than general file storage, backup archives or unrelated data repositories. This is an important distinction for customers with unusually large storage requirements.

Business Hosting uses a similar account structure but provides more resources and places fewer customers on each server. LiteSpeed Web Server, current PHP versions, SSD storage and integration with Cloudflare CDN improve performance for WordPress, business websites and other dynamic applications. cPanel, free SSL, dedicated IP addresses, databases, email and Softaculous are also included.

Reseller Hosting is aimed at web designers, agencies and hosting businesses that need separate customer accounts without operating the underlying infrastructure themselves. It uses cPanel-based management and includes SSL, Softaculous, databases and email functionality. Volume discounts increase as the number of reseller accounts grows, reaching the highest discount tier for customers maintaining more than 50 accounts.

The White Label Reseller platform is designed for businesses that want to sell hosting under their own identity. It provides a more complete reseller environment with customer management, service automation and branding capabilities without exposing Hostwinds as the infrastructure provider to the reseller's end users.

VPS remains one of the most important Hostwinds product categories. Both Linux and Windows VPS are available with managed or unmanaged administration. Entry Linux configurations begin with 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, SSD storage and included bandwidth, while larger plans add processor cores, RAM, storage and transfer capacity.

Managed VPS customers receive substantially more system administration assistance. Support can cover operating-system issues, networking, firewall configuration, software packages, troubleshooting and other server-level tasks. Unmanaged VPS is better suited to experienced administrators because Hostwinds maintains the underlying network and hardware while the customer remains responsible for operating-system and application management.

Cloud Servers use hourly billing and are managed through the Hostwinds Cloud Portal. Resources can be deployed and resized according to application requirements. The same cloud environment includes Load Balancers, Block Storage and S3-compatible Object Storage, together with firewall management, DNS, server images, snapshots and monitoring tools. Object Storage keeps multiple copies of stored information across separate devices for additional data resilience.

Dedicated Servers provide completely isolated physical resources and can be customized with different processors, memory capacities, storage devices and RAID configurations. RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10 and higher-level arrays are available where the selected hardware configuration supports them. Dedicated servers use 1 Gbps network connectivity and can be ordered with managed administration.

The dedicated inventory includes both recent and older processor generations. Lower-priced configurations can therefore be attractive for workloads where CPU age is less important, but customers running high-performance applications should compare the exact processor model, core count and memory configuration rather than choosing solely by monthly price.

Hostwinds also offers Colocation Hosting across Buffalo, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, Seattle, San Jose, Los Angeles, New York City, Dublin and Toronto. Services range from individual 1U deployments to half cabinets, full cabinets and larger cage installations. Remote hands, BGP/IP services, additional bandwidth and DDoS protection can be incorporated according to the deployment.

The colocation footprint is considerably broader than the company's normal hosting and cloud location selection. VPS and cloud customers primarily choose among Seattle, Dallas and Amsterdam, while colocation customers have access to a much larger set of North American and European facilities.

Domain registration is available through the client area, together with paid SSL products. Shared and Business hosting also include free SSL functionality, while standalone standard and wildcard SSL certificates remain available for customers requiring separately issued certificates.

The client system also retains categories for enterprise email, Shoutcast servers and VPN-related services, although the principal Hostwinds product portfolio is now centered on web hosting, VPS, cloud servers, dedicated infrastructure, storage, load balancing and colocation.
