HostedFTP is a Canadian managed file-transfer and cloud-storage specialist founded in 2008 and operated by Hosted FTP Inc. The company is based in Ontario and has concentrated on secure business file exchange for well over 15 years. Its specialization is quite different from a conventional web host because the portfolio does not revolve around shared hosting, WordPress, domains, VPS, or dedicated servers. HostedFTP is essentially a business-grade managed FTP, SFTP, and FTPS platform with secure cloud storage, controlled file sharing, automation, and compliance-oriented administration.

The service supports SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, and conventional FTP where compatibility with older software is still required. Secure protocols can be enforced at account or user level, which is particularly important for businesses replacing older FTP servers without immediately changing every internal application or automated workflow.

HostedFTP operates on Amazon Web Services infrastructure, with Amazon S3 used for file storage alongside other AWS services such as EC2 and RDS. This cloud architecture removes much of the operating-system maintenance, storage management, patching, redundancy work, and hardware administration associated with running an FTP server internally.

Two deployment models are available. Multi-Tenant Hosting is the more economical SaaS configuration and separates customer environments logically within shared infrastructure. Single-Tenant Hosting provides dedicated resources, an isolated user namespace, and separate encryption keys. The single-tenant option is particularly relevant to companies with stricter security, compliance, or data-jurisdiction requirements because deployments can also be arranged according to required countries or regions.

Security is one of HostedFTP's strongest characteristics. Data and related metadata can be protected with 256-bit AES encryption during transfer, on arrival, and at rest. Administrative security includes multi-factor authentication, SSH/RSA key authentication, IP whitelisting, password policies, secure-protocol enforcement, user restrictions, file-retention rules, audit trails, firewall controls, intrusion monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and SSO/Active Directory integration.

The platform is suited to organizations working with HIPAA, CJIS, GDPR, and SOC 2-related security requirements. Higher Enterprise tiers include additional compliance controls such as CJIS and HIPAA functionality and signed Business Associate Agreements. T5 and T10 plans also include a signed DPA, making the platform more appropriate for regulated business workflows than ordinary consumer file-sharing services.

User administration is granular. Administrators can create users and groups, assign read-only or read/write permissions to specific folders and subfolders, set quotas, restrict access by IP address, delegate administration, enforce account-wide security policies, and maintain detailed records of logins and transfers. Audit and reporting functions can also be exported for further analysis.

Secure collaboration with customers, contractors, and suppliers is handled through controlled folders and secure download links. An Upload Plugin can be embedded into another website so external users can submit files without obtaining normal account access. This type of workflow works well for medical documents, financial files, bids, legal material, artwork, manufacturing files, recordings, and other sensitive business data.

HostedFTP also supports Amazon S3 and SFTP synchronization, allowing automated transfers between the HostedFTP environment, S3 storage, and external SFTP systems. This makes it possible to use HostedFTP as a secure gateway without exposing internal cloud-storage credentials to customers or business partners.

The same automation capabilities fit EDI file exchange, where business documents need to move regularly between companies or applications. Managed SFTP workflows can handle these transfers while maintaining access controls, audit information, transfer notifications, and file-integrity checks.

Migration support is available for businesses replacing existing FTP or SFTP servers. Files, directory structures, user accounts, and permissions can be transferred into HostedFTP, while external SFTP synchronization can make phased migrations easier when older systems cannot be retired immediately.

Large-file handling is another practical strength. Enterprise accounts support individual files up to 64 GB, while the T2, T5, and T10 tiers support files up to 100 GB. This is useful for video, audio, graphics, CAD/CAM data, recordings, datasets, backups, and other large corporate files. Monthly data-transfer allowances still apply, so large individual file support should not be confused with unlimited bandwidth.

HostedFTP has solutions suitable for Accounting, Construction, Finance, Healthcare, Media, Law Enforcement, Manufacturing, Technology, and Call Centers. The same underlying file-transfer platform can be adapted through permissions, audit logs, encryption, upload forms, retention rules, group access, compliance controls, and automation. Call-center environments, for example, can use it to move and archive recordings, while law-enforcement organizations can create tightly controlled evidence-transfer workflows.

The customer interface and documentation are in English, and the service has a clear business and enterprise orientation rather than a mass-market hosting approach.
