📄 Editorial Review
GoHosting is an Australian web hosting, domain registration and server infrastructure provider established in 2003 by Alan Dawe and Stephen Hampson. Both founders previously worked for a major Australian Internet service provider and brought more than 30 years of combined industry experience into the business. GoHosting Pty Ltd operates from Canberra under ACN 136 903 172 and remains an independent Australian company.More than two decades of continuous operation give GoHosting a stronger background than many smaller hosting brands that rely entirely on rented overseas infrastructure. Its main advantages are Australian data residency, Canberra-based infrastructure, local technical support, information-security certification and a service range that extends well beyond ordinary shared hosting.
The product portfolio includes Linux shared hosting, WordPress hosting, Windows hosting, reseller hosting, managed website migrations, managed VPS, self-managed VPS, dedicated servers, server colocation, domain registration, SSL certificates, business VPN access, Microsoft 365 and enterprise email filtering. Custom server and security configurations are also available for organizations whose requirements do not fit a standard package.
Business Hosting uses Linux, cPanel and LiteSpeed. The three packages include 1 GB, 5 GB or 30 GB of storage, with monthly traffic allowances ranging from 4 GB to unlimited. Depending on the selected package, customers can host between one and four additional domains, while domain aliases and MySQL databases are unrestricted.
Every shared hosting package includes free SSL certificates, email accounts, database support, PHP, daily backups, DDoS protection, malware controls and external hardware firewalling. The combination of LiteSpeed and server-side caching gives WordPress and other PHP applications better performance than a basic Apache-only environment.
Storage allowances are conservative compared with mass-market providers offering very large or nominally unlimited accounts. GoHosting is therefore better suited to business websites, company portals and professionally maintained applications than to customers wanting large amounts of inexpensive file storage.
WordPress Hosting follows the same general package structure and uses Australian infrastructure, LiteSpeed, free SSL certificates and daily backups. WordPress can be installed quickly, while caching and server-side security controls reduce the amount of manual configuration required from the customer.
The WordPress service remains a shared hosting environment rather than a completely isolated managed WordPress platform. A busy online store, membership website or application using resource-intensive plugins may eventually require a VPS.
Windows Hosting uses Plesk and supports ASP.NET, Microsoft SQL Server and Windows-based web applications. ColdFusion support is included with the largest package. This makes the Windows range useful for organizations maintaining legacy applications or software that cannot operate correctly on a Linux cPanel account.
Reseller Hosting is available through three packages supporting from 50 to an unlimited number of cPanel accounts. Storage ranges from 60 GB to 400 GB, while the larger configurations include additional memory and bandwidth.
Reseller customers receive WHM, cPanel, CloudLinux, PHP version selection, automated backups and managed server infrastructure. Each end-user account remains separated from the others, allowing agencies and web developers to maintain multiple customers without placing every website inside one shared control-panel account.
The reseller remains responsible for billing and supporting its own end users unless a separate support arrangement has been established. This is an important distinction for agencies expecting the hosting company to operate as an invisible help desk for their customers.
Website migrations can be handled by the technical team. A conventional cPanel-to-cPanel transfer can normally be completed without a separate migration charge. Applications using another control panel, complex DNS configurations, external email services or unusual software may require additional planning and a quotation.
The server portfolio is divided between managed VPS and self-managed VPS. Managed configurations include cPanel, active monitoring, operating-system maintenance and broader technical assistance. They are suitable for companies that require isolated resources but do not want to administer the complete server environment themselves.
Self-managed VPS packages provide root access on Linux or administrator access on Windows. The available configurations include dedicated IPv4 addresses, isolated virtual resources and plans reaching eight virtual processors, 8 GB of RAM and 100 GB of storage.
These servers cost less than the managed range, but responsibility for operating-system updates, software installation, security configuration, application troubleshooting and general administration remains with the customer.
Managed VPS infrastructure uses Hyper-V, while the self-managed range uses VMware. Customers with specific requirements involving virtualization drivers, snapshots, migration tools or guest operating systems should confirm the platform attached to the selected configuration before ordering.
Dedicated Servers are configured individually rather than sold through a rigid instant-order list. Processor, memory, storage, operating system, connectivity, security and management requirements are established during consultation.
This approach works well for organizations needing specialized hardware or a carefully planned server environment. It is less convenient for customers who simply want to compare several fixed dedicated-server configurations and order immediately.
Server Colocation allows customers to install their own equipment in Canberra. Available arrangements can include redundant power, remote power control, network connectivity, traffic monitoring and technical assistance. Rack space, electricity use, cross-connects, IP allocation, bandwidth and remote-hands support are quotation-based.
Domain registration covers Australian and international extensions. GoHosting is an auDA-accredited registrar and supports registrations under
.au, .com.au and other Australian namespaces for eligible applicants.Australian business domains require a valid connection to the requested name through a company name, registered business name, trademark or another accepted eligibility category. Privacy protection is available for supported international extensions but cannot be applied to Australian domains because of auDA registration requirements.
Domain transfers use the registry authorization or EPP code and usually complete within approximately 24 to 48 hours after approval. Registration periods can extend from one to ten years where the registry permits multi-year registration.
The email portfolio includes Microsoft 365 packages with Exchange email, Office applications, OneDrive storage and collaboration tools. Business Basic includes hosted email, browser-based Office applications and 1 TB of OneDrive storage, while the larger subscriptions add desktop applications and expanded business features.
The separate Enterprise Spam Filter operates through a dedicated email-security gateway rather than relying only on the basic filtering included with shared hosting or Microsoft 365. It provides configurable policies, mailbox-level controls, behavioral analysis, phishing protection and defenses against ransomware, zero-day attacks and other email-borne threats.
Shared mailboxes, forwarding addresses and distribution lists do not consume paid mailbox licenses, which can reduce costs for organizations with several functional addresses but fewer individual users.
GoVPN uses OpenVPN to create an encrypted connection into the GoHosting network. The service includes a static address and support for adding or removing VPN users.
A practical use is restricting SSH, server administration or another sensitive service to the VPN address instead of exposing management ports to the entire Internet. This provides a useful additional security layer for remote employees and system administrators.
Commercial SSL certificates are available for customers requiring wildcard coverage, validation warranties or a certificate beyond the free SSL included with hosting. RapidSSL options use 256-bit encryption, and wildcard certificates can protect an unrestricted number of subdomains under the same domain name.
Security is one of GoHosting’s strongest areas. The company is independently certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022, with information-security controls covering employees, subsidiaries, physical records, systems and digital information.
Shared hosting includes external firewall protection, DDoS mitigation, CSF, Imunify security, malware filtering, continuous patching and CloudLinux account isolation. CloudLinux prevents one shared-hosting account from freely consuming the resources assigned to other customers on the same server.
Daily hosting backups have a default 14-day retention period. Backup copies are encrypted and replicated to another Australian data center, while cPanel customers can perform certain restorations directly from the control panel.
These backups provide useful operational protection, but customers should still maintain independent copies of important websites, databases, email and application data. Provider backups should not be treated as a replacement for a separate business continuity plan.
Personal information is stored in Australia and handled under the Australian Privacy Act and Australian Privacy Principles. Collected personal information is not transferred overseas for storage. Payment data is handled through PCI DSS-compliant systems rather than being exposed directly through the hosting platform.
The website is modern, responsive and usable on mobile devices. Product information is primarily available in English, and prices are displayed in Australian dollars. The secure customer portal supports additional interface localizations, but sales, legal and technical information remains focused on English-speaking Australian customers.
