DomainProvider.de is the hosting and domain platform operated by Gerwan GmbH in Bonn, Germany. The company has been active since 1997, giving it almost three decades of experience in domains, hosting and Internet services. Gerwan GmbH was established as a GmbH in 1999, and Lars Maischein is the current managing director. Its services cover private customers, businesses, agencies, resellers, public-sector organizations and other professional users.

Domains are one of the strongest parts of the business. The portfolio covers more than 700 domain extensions, including traditional country-code and generic TLDs as well as many newer extensions. Domain accounts include DNS management for common record types such as A, AAAA, MX, TXT and CNAME, URL forwarding, domain parking and multiple nameservers. Domain transfers and ownership changes are also supported.

Agencies and higher-volume customers can use Domain Reseller, a separate system designed for managing domains across multiple customers. It includes multi-client administration, a web interface, customizable email templates, an XML interface for automation and an optional white-label frontend. There are no setup fees or general base fees for the reseller domain system, making it useful for agencies that want to manage registrations centrally without building their own registrar infrastructure.

Secure Redirect is another useful domain service. It forwards a domain over HTTPS and includes an automatically renewed Let's Encrypt certificate, TLS 1.3 and IPv4/IPv6 support. Reservations for new domain extensions can also be submitted before the relevant registry launch, with the final registration conditions becoming binding once availability, launch dates and pricing are confirmed.

The conventional hosting range includes Email Hosting, Web Hosting and WordPress Hosting. Web Hosting combines SSD storage, email, SSL, a .de domain and the Gerwan Builder. WordPress Hosting adds a preinstalled WordPress environment and the Plesk WordPress Toolkit, while larger plans include features such as staging, Smart Upgrade and migration assistance.

Email Hosting is aimed at customers who need professional mailboxes without a larger web hosting package. IMAP, POP3, webmail, aliases, forwarding, autoresponders, spam protection and antivirus filtering are included according to the selected package.

Virtual servers are offered as VDS, with CPU cores, RAM and SSD capacity allocated as dedicated resources. Customers receive root access through SSH, IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity and Webmin for graphical administration. Plesk and managed administration can be added separately. This model is particularly suitable for customers who want predictable server resources while retaining the flexibility of virtualization.

At the higher end, Dedicated Managed Servers are individually configured physical systems. SSD storage, multi-core processors, exclusive RAM, firewall configuration, operating-system updates, security patches and technical monitoring can be combined according to the customer's workload. Plesk can also be included where required.

The Gerwan Builder provides a website-building option for customers who do not want to work directly with a CMS. It combines drag-and-drop editing with AI-assisted layouts, text, images and SEO content. More than 170 templates are available, together with responsive layouts, blogging, an integrated online shop and support for multilingual websites. Advanced users can also edit HTML, (S)CSS and JavaScript. The builder is included with Web Hosting and can be tested separately for 14 days.

Email users can add Spam & Virus Protection based on Cisco IronPort technology. The filtering system operates in front of the existing mail infrastructure through the domain's MX configuration, meaning it can be used independently of the actual mail server. It includes several filtering stages, a 30-day quarantine and spam detection exceeding 98%.

Certificate products extend well beyond the free Let's Encrypt SSL included with hosting. Commercial DV, OV and wildcard SSL/TLS certificates are available from RapidSSL, Sectigo and Thawte. S/MIME email and client-authentication certificates use GlobalSign. DV certificates are suitable for fast domain validation, while OV products include company verification and wildcard certificates protect a domain together with its subdomains.

The storefront is primarily German-language, while Plesk administration is available in German and English. Gerwan Builder can be used for multilingual websites. Pricing is in EUR, with German VAT included for consumer pricing. The website was substantially modernized in 2026 and now works well on current desktop and mobile layouts.
