DDS.nl, historically known as De Digitale Stad, is one of the oldest Dutch internet brands still active in the market. Its roots go back to 1994, which gives the company a very different character from modern cloud-first hosting providers. DDS is better understood as a legacy Dutch internet and hosting provider focused on email, domain names, basic webspace, PHP/MySQL add-ons, online storage, DSL/VDSL access and selected fiber connections.

The operating company is DDS City B.V., based in Leiden, Netherlands. The brand became part of IT-Ernity in 2012 and later moved under the broader TransIP / team.blue environment after the acquisition of IT-Ernity in 2018. DDS still keeps its own identity, but its background is now connected to a much larger Dutch and European hosting group.

DDS is not a modern VPS, dedicated server, reseller hosting or cloud infrastructure provider. Their current profile is much more modest and traditional. The central product is the DDS Basispakket, which combines a 10 GB mailbox, POP/IMAP access, authenticated SMTP, webmail, spam filtering, virus scanning, 250 MB online file/web space, sFTP/SSH access and a simple homepage facility. Customers can expand this with domains, subaccounts, additional mailboxes, extra disk space and PHP/MySQL hosting.

The hosting environment is old-school but practical. Website files are uploaded through sFTP / SSH, with the normal publishing folder set as public_html. A site can run on a DDS subdomain or on the customer’s own domain name. CGI support and optional PHP/MySQL are available, but this is not a modern cPanel or WordPress-optimized hosting platform. It fits simple personal websites, small legacy projects, basic business pages and long-term email users better than modern high-performance web applications.

Domain services cover common extensions such as .nl, .com, .net, .org, .info, .eu, .be, .de, .tv, .mobi, .nu and .amsterdam. A domain can be connected to DDS email and webspace, or pointed elsewhere without extra routing cost. DDS also supports aliases, forwarding and subdomains through its account management area, which is useful for customers who mainly need flexible email handling under their own domain.

The website itself has a visibly older design, with a narrow layout, traditional navigation and limited modern mobile-first presentation. It is functional, but it does not feel like a current commercial hosting storefront. The website is mainly in Dutch, with only limited English company/historical content, so international customers should expect a Dutch-first experience.
