Cyberlink AG is a long-established Swiss managed service provider specializing in business cloud infrastructure, Internet connectivity, private networks, colocation and secure SCION networking. Founded in 1995 in Zurich by Beat Tinner, Cyberlink began as an Internet service provider during the early commercial Internet era in Switzerland. Tinner remains Chairman of the Board, while Thomas Knüsel has served as CEO since 2022. The company is privately held and 100% owned by its Swiss management, with around 40 employees working from Zurich.

Cyberlink has evolved significantly from its original ISP business. It built an SDSL access network in 2000 and expanded to Basel in 2005. From 2012 onward, the company moved away from its earlier consumer-oriented Internet, telephony, television and web-hosting activities and concentrated increasingly on professional ICT infrastructure for business customers. Cloud services became a strategic business area in 2016, Cyberlink became Switzerland's first VMware Cloud Verified provider in 2018, and SCION networking joined the portfolio in 2022.

The current portfolio is centered on Virtual Private Cloud, Dedicated Private Cloud, OpenStack Cloud, Disaster Recovery as a Service, Object Storage, Colocation, Business Internet, Private Networks and secure SCION connectivity. Database as a Service and Kubernetes-oriented services complement the broader cloud environment. Cyberlink concentrates strongly on Swiss infrastructure and data sovereignty, while its cloud processes are audited under ISAE 3402.

Cyberlink has also performed consistently well in the Swiss BILANZ Telecom Rating. In 2025 it reached second place for ISP & Corporate Networks and third place in both Cloud Services and Datacenter, reinforcing its position in the Swiss enterprise ICT market.

Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) is based on VMware Cloud Foundation and combines vSphere, vSAN, NSX and related VMware technologies in a managed private-cloud environment. It can operate independently or form part of hybrid and multi-cloud architectures. Workloads remain in Swiss Tier 3 facilities, and geographically separated availability zones can provide virtual-machine availability of up to 99.99%. Backup can be enabled individually for each virtual machine.

The VPC supports hybrid and all-flash storage, while data traffic and NSX firewall usage are incorporated into the resource model. Billing follows actual resource consumption, so customers do not continue paying full RAM charges for powered-off virtual machines. VPC customer service is available around the clock in Swiss German, German and English.

For organizations that require dedicated hardware isolation, Dedicated Private Cloud provides a dedicated multi-node VMware Cloud Foundation cluster. These environments are individually sized and are particularly suitable for larger corporate workloads, regulated applications, specialized hardware requirements and hybrid-cloud deployments. Dedicated Private Cloud becomes especially relevant for organizations whose cloud infrastructure costs have reached a level where dedicated resources can offer better economics over a multi-year period.

Cyberlink expanded its OpenStack capabilities through cloudscale. In December 2024, Cyberlink acquired a 40% stake in cloudscale.ch AG, creating a much closer strategic relationship than a conventional resale agreement.

The resulting OpenStack Cloud provides virtual servers, load balancing, object storage, private networking and GPU instances on an OpenStack and Ceph architecture. Customers receive API-based provisioning, Terraform and Ansible integration, NVMe storage and a web control panel. Selected Flex and Plus compute flavors include a 99.99% availability SLA. The platform operates from two Swiss data-center locations and is particularly well suited to DevOps, Kubernetes, application development and cloud-native infrastructure.

GPU instances add dedicated CPU cores, high-speed local NVMe scratch storage and NVIDIA GPU resources, making the platform suitable for AI inference, model training and other accelerator-intensive workloads. Conventional CPU and memory configurations are also available in many sizes, allowing the same OpenStack environment to serve ordinary application and infrastructure workloads.

Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) is designed primarily for VMware environments. Virtual machines can be replicated from customer infrastructure into Cyberlink's Swiss cloud and activated there when the primary environment becomes unavailable. VMware Cloud Director Availability handles replication between the environments. Consumption at the disaster-recovery site is charged according to actual use, including hourly billing during a failover, rather than requiring customers to maintain an equally expensive second production environment permanently.

An optional onboarding workshop can be used to configure and test the DR environment before it is needed in a genuine emergency. This makes the service useful for companies that need business-continuity capabilities but do not want to build and operate a complete secondary VMware platform themselves.

Object Storage is an all-flash, Ceph-based S3-compatible service operated together with cloudscale. It supports Object Lock, ACLs, versioning, policies, CORS and common S3 tools such as awscli, s3cmd, rclone and boto3. Two physically separated storage locations are available in Rümlang and Lupfig, Switzerland, with customers choosing the required endpoint.

The service works well for backup repositories, archives, application data, logging and other S3-compatible storage requirements. Storage users and corresponding access and secret keys are managed through Cyberlink's customer environment.

Cyberlink continues to have particularly strong networking capabilities. Business Internet combines access networks from several Swiss carriers rather than restricting all customers to a single infrastructure provider. Available access technologies include mobile 5G, xDSL, FTTH, Ethernet and DWDM. Depending on the technology and service class, bandwidth ranges from best-effort mobile connections to 10 Gbit/s Ethernet and 100 Gbit/s DWDM.

Higher-end Business Internet configurations include binding SLAs with availability up to 99.99%. Basic DDoS protection is included up to the ordered connection bandwidth or a maximum of 1 Gbit/s, while customers with higher security requirements can obtain more extensive DDoS mitigation.

Private Network connects business offices and infrastructure through MPLS, DMVPN or SD-WAN. Encrypted transmission is available where required, and multiple underlying carriers and access technologies can be combined. Corporate offices, cloud environments and colocated systems can therefore communicate privately instead of routing internal traffic through the public Internet. Depending on the selected configuration, availability reaches 99.97%, with proactive monitoring and service coverage extending to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Internet Connect provides data-center Internet connectivity even when the customer's rack is not supplied directly by Cyberlink. Configurations range from 100 Mbit/s best-effort connectivity to redundant 10 Gbit/s connections. Organizations with their own IP address space can use Cyberlink as a BGP partner, while both flat-rate and burstable bandwidth models are available. Premium configurations reach 99.99% availability, include an SLA and can include 7x24 support. Basic DDoS protection is included.

One of the most distinctive areas of the Cyberlink portfolio is SCION, the secure Internet architecture developed from research at ETH Zurich. SCION introduces cryptographically protected routing, explicit path control and multipath connectivity. Organizations can restrict network paths according to defined countries or autonomous systems, improving resilience against route hijacking and reducing exposure to several classes of routing and denial-of-service attacks.

Cyberlink operates dedicated SCION core infrastructure and supplies SCION edge systems for customer environments. Optional 24/7 monitoring is available for critical deployments.

The SCION portfolio includes several specialized Swiss networks. SSFN provides connectivity to the Secure Swiss Finance Network for banks and other financial-market organizations. SSHN addresses healthcare organizations, SEPN serves electronic payment infrastructure, and SSUN is designed for energy companies and critical utility networks.

SCION Cloud combines cloudscale infrastructure with SCION connectivity. Cyberlink also works with Anapaya (anapaya.net) technology, including Anapaya GATE. SCION International extends these capabilities outside Switzerland, with Cyberlink operating SCION cores in Zurich, Vienna and Düsseldorf and supporting further international expansion where customer requirements justify it.

Cyberlink is primarily a business infrastructure provider rather than a conventional retail web host. Its strongest use cases are Swiss data sovereignty, private cloud, high-availability connectivity, private networking, colocation, disaster recovery, regulated infrastructure and security-sensitive applications. The company operates both German and English versions of its website, while commercial prices are primarily expressed in Swiss francs (CHF).
