📄 Editorial Review
Cologix is a North American data center, colocation and interconnection provider headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 2010 by Grant van Rooyen, the company has developed into one of the more substantial carrier-neutral infrastructure providers across the United States and Canada. Laura Ortman currently serves as CEO.The company operates more than 45 data centers across 13 strategic North American markets and supports approximately 2,000 customers. Its workforce exceeds 475 employees, while its facilities connect businesses to hundreds of network operators, cloud platforms and digital service providers.
Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners (stonepeak.com) acquired a majority interest in Cologix in 2017. A $3 billion equity recapitalization completed in 2022 moved the business into new Stonepeak-managed investment vehicles and provided further financial support for acquisitions, new construction and hyperscale development.
Expansion has combined purpose-built projects with acquisitions in major connectivity markets. Important additions have included facilities in Montréal, Minneapolis, Columbus, Florida, Northern New Jersey, Toronto, Dallas, Silicon Valley, Vancouver, Des Moines and Calgary. The Calgary presence was established through the October 2025 acquisition of the CGY1 carrier hotel.
Cologix is not a conventional retail hosting company. It does not provide typical shared hosting, VPS plans, rented dedicated servers, reseller hosting, domain registration, website builders, SSL packages or hosted email accounts. Its services are designed for enterprises, network operators, cloud companies, content platforms and other organizations that own or operate their own computing and telecommunications equipment.
The main service is carrier-neutral colocation, with deployment options ranging from cabinets and racks to private cages, pods and customized suites. Customers install their own hardware, while Cologix provides the secured space, electrical power, cooling, physical security, environmental monitoring and access to network and cloud providers.
Standard Connections combine a smaller colocation deployment with redundant power and the equipment required to connect with another provider or customer inside the same facility. This makes the service suitable for organizations that need a controlled entry point into a large carrier ecosystem without initially leasing extensive data center space.
Interconnection is one of the company’s strongest areas. Its ecosystem includes more than 725 networks, 350 cloud providers, 35 cloud onramps and approximately 25,000 interconnections. Customers can use physical cross-connects, internet exchanges, private cloud circuits, metropolitan fiber services and blended internet connectivity to build redundant, low-latency infrastructure without depending on a single carrier.
OneConnect is the software-defined interconnection platform. It supports private virtual circuits to cloud platforms, network operators and other organizations within the Cologix ecosystem. Circuits can be provisioned quickly, with bandwidth options ranging from 50 Mbps to 10 Gbps. A single physical port can support multiple virtual connections, simplifying hybrid-cloud and multicloud deployments.
Private cloud connectivity is available for Amazon Web Services Direct Connect, Google Cloud Interconnect, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, IBM Cloud and Oracle FastConnect. These connections avoid the unpredictability of the public internet and can provide lower latency, more consistent throughput and improved control over business-critical traffic.
Metro Connect links separate Cologix facilities within the same metropolitan market. Customers can use Ethernet connectivity or passive optical wavelength services to extend infrastructure between data centers. This is useful for disaster recovery, network diversity, storage replication and active-active deployments.
Blended IP combines multiple upstream providers with redundant routing. It is a practical option for organizations that require resilient internet connectivity but do not want to negotiate and manage separate transit contracts independently.
The Scalelogix platform is intended for hyperscale users, large cloud providers and digital enterprises requiring multi-megawatt deployments. Its operational and planned portfolio represents approximately 1.5 million square feet and 285 MW across seven hyperscale locations. These facilities remain closely connected to Cologix carrier hotels and network ecosystems, allowing large computing environments to reach cloud platforms, carriers and end users efficiently.
AI infrastructure has become an increasingly important part of the portfolio. Selected locations support high-density deployments, multi-megawatt capacity, liquid-to-chip cooling and latency-sensitive inference workloads. This combination makes Cologix suitable for GPU clusters and artificial intelligence platforms that need substantial power density together with direct access to cloud and network infrastructure.
The company website has a modern and responsive design and is available in English and French. There is no instant retail checkout or standardized online plan comparison because colocation capacity, power density, connectivity, redundancy and contract terms are prepared individually for each deployment.
