Canaca-Com Inc. is a long-established Canadian web hosting company whose origins go back to 1997, when Paul, Sandro and Les started the business in Toronto. The incorporated hosting operation dates from April 21, 1998, giving Canaca more than two decades of experience in the hosting market.

The business expanded considerably during its earlier years. It grew from the three original founders to 19 employees by 2001 and reached a historical peak of about 120 employees in 2008. The company later operated with a smaller staff, with around 30 employees recorded in 2015.

Canaca concentrates mainly on SSD Shared Hosting, VPS, Dedicated Servers and domain registration. It owns its hosting equipment and operates Canadian infrastructure in the Toronto area rather than functioning only as a hosting reseller. Pricing is available in CAD and USD, while the website is available in English.

The shared hosting service is sold as SSD Hosting, with plans offering 10 GB, 20 GB or 60 GB of RAID SSD storage and between 500 GB and 800 GB of monthly bandwidth. Accounts include unlimited hosted websites, unlimited email accounts, autoresponders, email forwarding, subdomains and MySQL databases. FTP, SSH, PHP, phpMyAdmin, spam filtering and webmail are also included. A dedicated IPv4 address and one free domain registration are included with the hosting packages.

The VPS service provides full root SSH access, SSD storage and a server environment with Apache, PHP, Perl and MySQL. Configurations range from 2 GB RAM with 35 GB SSD storage through larger systems with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD storage. Depending on the selected VPS, customers receive between two and eight virtual CPU cores.

Virtual servers can be administered directly through SSH or with Virtualmin GPL, while cPanel/WHM is available as a paid control-panel option. Additional RAM and bandwidth can also be arranged when more resources are required.

Some VPS software information remains from an older generation of the service, including references to CentOS 7, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Fedora 27. Customers deploying a new virtual server should therefore confirm the operating-system images currently available before choosing the package.

The Dedicated Server range uses AMD Ryzen Threadripper hardware. Entry-level systems are based on the Threadripper 1900X with eight cores and 16 threads, while higher configurations include the Threadripper 1950X with 16 cores and 32 threads. Memory configurations range up to 64 GB RAM, and both HDD and SSD storage options are available with RAID 1.

Dedicated servers include approximately 15 TB of monthly bandwidth, one static IPv4 address and network ports ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps depending on the configuration. Dedicated hardware is monitored around the clock. Provisioning can require up to ten business days because the required hardware may be ordered and prepared after payment.

Domain registration is available alongside the hosting services, including extensions such as .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and .ca. Domain administration is handled through OpenSRS, giving customers access to nameserver and registration management separately from the hosting account.

Canaca is clearly an experienced hosting provider, although its website still uses an older design and contains a number of legacy software and infrastructure references. Some headline prices also differ from figures shown deeper in the individual hosting sections. The final configuration and billing amount should therefore be checked carefully during ordering.
