📄 Editorial Review

bplaced is an Austrian web hosting provider founded by Miroslav Bozic in 2007. The business operates as bplaced e.U. from Vienna, Austria, and has developed from a free web hosting service into a broader managed hosting platform covering personal websites, professional projects, business hosting, reseller environments and educational use. In early 2024, bplaced expanded its operational presence through bplaced d.o.o. Novi Sad in Serbia, supporting activities such as customer service, development and system administration.

Its main services include Shared Hosting, Business Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Domains, DNS, SSL Certificates, Email Hosting and Education Hosting. bplaced is primarily focused on managed webspace rather than VPS or dedicated servers, with progressively larger shared hosting plans for customers who require more storage, databases, email resources, SSH access and multi-user administration.

The Freestyle package remains one of the more distinctive parts of bplaced. It provides completely free web hosting without advertising and includes 1 GB storage, two databases, PHP 8, FTP access and ticket support. Traffic operates under a fair-use model, custom domains can be connected and there is no artificial restriction on individual file size. It works particularly well for small websites, PHP experiments, development projects and users learning web technologies.

bplaced Pro is the first commercial tier and costs EUR 3 per month. It increases storage to 8 GB, supports 16 databases and adds HTTPS/SSL, external PHP socket connections, the Live Access web file manager and higher bandwidth. Automatic SSL begins with this package. The short billing cycle and flexible cancellation make Pro a practical upgrade for users who outgrow Freestyle without needing a full professional hosting package.

bplaced Max costs EUR 7.50 per month and is considerably more capable. It includes 50 GB webspace, 20 databases, SSH access, cron jobs, two hosting users and 10 GB of separate email storage. Customers can create their own mailboxes and use IMAP and Webmail, while the inclusion of SSH makes Max suitable for developers using Git, SVN, SFTP, SSHFS or rsync. Direct domain registration and transfer also become available from this tier.

The Business package increases resources to 100 GB webspace, 50 databases, 20 GB email storage and five web hosting users. Web files, databases and email benefit from NVMe storage. This tier is better suited to professional CMS installations, online shops and heavier PHP applications, including platforms such as WooCommerce, Shopware, Magento, PrestaShop and OpenCart. Business hosting costs EUR 25 per month and includes more individualized customer assistance as well as the possibility of expanding resources when required.

bplaced Enterprise is the strongest standard package and also functions as a reseller and multi-account hosting environment. It provides 500 GB storage, 200 databases, 100 GB email storage and administration for as many as 30 customer accounts. Administrators can create separate hosting profiles and distribute available resources among individual customers. Reselling is permitted, support can extend to reseller customers, an optional SLA is available and CDN integration can be arranged. Enterprise costs EUR 99 per month.

The bplaced Edu package is intended for schools, seminars, courses and other non-commercial educational environments. For EUR 10 per month, it includes 50 GB storage, 50 databases, 10 GB email storage and management of up to 20 participants. Teachers or course administrators can maintain separate participant environments from one central account, making it useful for PHP, database, CMS and general web-development courses.

Database functionality is broader than on many inexpensive shared hosting platforms. Customers can use MySQL/MariaDB and PostgreSQL, with phpMyAdmin and PgAdmin available for administration. Databases can have multiple users with separate permissions, and external database access can be restricted according to IP address or hostname. Current database storage uses NVMe.

PHP receives regular version updates. PHP 8.5 became available in December 2025 and is automatically selected for newly created accounts, while existing customers can choose other supported PHP versions from the hosting interface. Combined with SSH on Max and higher packages, this gives developers a much more flexible environment than basic shared hosting normally provides.

Domain management is integrated into the hosting platform. Customers can connect domains registered elsewhere even on lower packages, while direct registration and transfers become available from Max upward. More than 70 domain extensions are supported, and customers can manage DNS records or use bplaced nameservers.

Automatic SSL/TLS certificates are included from Pro upward. Certificates are issued and renewed automatically, while OCSP stapling is supported. Customers requiring a specific certificate can also install their own. Freestyle remains the exception because HTTPS functionality is reserved for commercial hosting plans.

Email hosting starts with Max and uses storage separate from website storage. This prevents website files from consuming the mailbox quota. Features include unlimited email addresses, forwarding, Webmail, IMAP, spam filtering, virus scanning, Greylisting and configurable blacklists and whitelists. Email logging is also available for tracing message delivery and sending activity.

The website and customer environment are available in German and English, including different German language styles, while German remains the contractual language for the Terms of Service. Commercial hosting is priced in EUR. The current interface is responsive and suitable for desktop and mobile use, and the customer area also includes a dark mode.
