Mar 30, 2004 : ISC Installs Root Nameserver in Mexico

📅 - Internet Systems Consortium (http://www.isc.org), in conjunction with NIC Mexico, Prodigy Data Center, Avantel and Alestra announced on Monday that it has installed the first root nameserver in Mexico. For the project, NIC Mexico coordinated the efforts to install the server and bandwidth providers Prodigy Data Center, Avantel and Alestra sponsored the physical infrastructure. ISC is the administrator of the server cluster.

Root nameservers help convert domain names into their corresponding IP addresses, or numerical address on the Internet. There are 13 root nameservers located around the world.
According to the announcement, the installation of a root nameserver in Mexico confirms the importance of Mexico on the Internet and will strengthen the worldwide Internet infrastructure.
"We are excited to be able to provide these services to the Internet users in Mexico and to work with NIC Mexico on this project," says Joao Damas, F-root program manager at ISC. "The deployment of a F-root nameserver in this region will provide local Internet users with enhanced response times and the security of a local root nameserver."
