Sep 3, 2004 : Apache Portable Runtime 2.0 Released
📅 - The Apache Software Foundation (apache.org) released version 1.0 of Apache Portable Runtime on Thursday, according to a report by ZDNet UK.
APR is used primarily with the Apache 2.0 Web server, allowing developers to write applications to a single interface and run them on multiple platforms, including Linux, Unix, Windows and Mac. Written in C, APR allows developers to write their programs just once and then run them on whatever platform they choose by simply recompiling the program. APR was designed for use with servers, but is also useful for client-based applications, Cliff Wooley, vice president of APR, said in the report. Wooley said the main advantages of APR are its efficiency and broad cross-OS and cross-architecture portability. APR can be downloaded at apr.apache.org
