Nov 10, 2004 : Dell Adds Clustering Tools to Server

📅 - According to Information Week, Dell (dell.com) has teamed up with Platform Computing (platform.com) to install Platform Rocks, its cluster management software, in the new Dell PowerEdge server.

Platform Rocks is available first to Dell customers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux. There is no charge for the open source software although customers can sign up for an optional support package.
Dell's new server features dual Intel Xeon EM64T processors, an 800-MHz front-side bus, up to 12 GB of DDR-2 memory, and dual Gigabit Ethernet NICs for high-performance I/O capabilities.
Gary Tyreman, director of product management for Platform Computing reportedly said Platform Rocks is designed for the administrator that does not know or want to learn how to build a cluster.
Dell entered into the partnership as a way to increase its market share in the high-performance computer cluster market, the report said.
