Sep 4, 2007 : Netcraft Shares September 2007 Data

📅 - Web analytics firm Netcraft (netcraft.com) announced on Monday that it has released the results of its September 2007 Web Server Survey.

The firm says it received responses from 135,166,473 sites, an increase of 7.2 million Web sites since last month. This also happens to be the largest growth in the number of sites recorded by the survey.

Netcraft attributes the high growth this year to the increasing number of online blogging and social networking communities, with a particular push from Windows Live Spaces, MySpace and Blogger this month. The analytics firm says that an increased popularity of these blog hosting services has also been affecting Web server market shares with Apache suffering a sudden decline in shares when sites at Blogger switched to Google's GFE.

Apache has gained over three million hostnames and around 0.9 million active sites this month, but this hasn't been enough to prevent its market share from declining closer to the 50 percent mark as Microsoft gained three million hostnames.

Last week, Google's blogging service Blogger was offline for an hour after experiencing performance problems, reported Netcraft.
